A man who led Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies on a vehicle pursuit late Wednesday afternoon and was wanted for parole violation was arrested Thursday, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

Jack C. Davis Observatory's lecture series focusing on topics in astronomy and science continues on Saturday night, Nov. 18. Observatory volunteer Robert Anderson will present a discussion on "The Rise of the Reflector." His presentation will cover a history of lens-type telescopes and how and why they became larger and larger.

On Thursday, Carson City Supervisors voted to approve a new pilot program at the Carson City Jail called the Family Services Unit, which will be created to support inmates with children and at-risk children.

The program is preventative, which means that it is not offered to anyone currently facing charges for child-related crimes such as abuse or neglect.

The mild and dry conditions around Carson City, Lake Tahoe and surrounding counties may take a turn later this week, bringing periods of mountain snow and valley rain to the region, according to the National Weather Service.
