Toddler in stroller hit while in crosswalk at College Parkway and Northgate
An elderly man on oxygen drove through a crosswalk full of trick or treaters tonight, sending a three year old girl to the regional trauma center via Careflight. The little girl was in a stroller being pushed by her mother when a car came through and caught the stroller which went under the car and was dragged through the intersection at College Parkway and Northgate.
Miraculously, little Cindi suffered only bad road rash. Maybe a broken arm or leg. Paramedics were not sure.
Driver of the car, 62 year old Richard Benefield, said he didn’t see the mother or stroller or the other five or six other children around her. Deputies say he had not been drinking. Deputies say Benefield was cited for failimg to stop for pedestrians in a crosswalk. This particular crosswalk is extremely dark without any lighting and vehicular speeds are sometime rather high.
