Senators set to open league play, resume rivalry against Douglas
A new season between two old rivals will begin on Thursday afternoon when the Carson High softball team visits Douglas for the opener of a three-game Sierra League softball series in Minden.
The rivals open with a 3:30 p.m. single game, then square off for a 10 a.m. double header at Carson on Saturday in a series that could have playoff implications, even though it's still only the middle of March. Douglas is the defending league champion and Carson is coming off a season in which it missed the Northern 4A playoffs by one game after finishing fifth in the league with a 13-8 record (19-12 overall).
"It's a big series," Carson coach Scott Vickrey said. "Obviously, they're all big, but we don't want to be playing catchup from the get-go."
