Pioneer High School JAG Students Attend Career Development Conference

Pioneer High School students had plenty of opportunities to participate in new and important experiences when they attended the Career and Development Conference in Reno.

I just returned from Orange, Virginia from a conference held at Montpelier, former US President James Madison's estate. I was chosen among applicants to attend this conference because I think our community needs to know the cool educational opportunities in which teachers are embarking. The conference covered “Gender, Sexual Identity, and the Constitution.”

Good morning Carson City! It's finally starting to feel like Spring around here. The weather today is going to be another gorgeous day, sunny with highs of 56, a low of 28, and 52 percent humidity. CHS celebrated its Second Annual Carson Unplugged event this past week where staff and students were encouraged to unplug from technology and be present in the moment, enjoying more face-to-face interactions and less screen time.

Capital City Arts Initiative’s relationship with Carson High School made it possible for Caleb Cage, a West Point graduate, U.S. Army veteran and author to visit with CHS students where he read one of his short stories from his 2017 book "Desert Mementos: Stories of Iraq and Nevada" and then fielded questions about writing and his background.

Recently, SkillsUSA had its Regional Photography Competition, and all five participating CHS students are going to State. Learn to Paint like Elaine de Kooning at the Brewery Arts Center

Elaine de Kooning (1918-1989) was an American painter, teacher, and critic known for her work with abstract expressionism. Her portraiture often features friends and family, but her most famous sitter was President JFK. Elaine de Kooning was a social activist, especially the women’s movement.

Tibetan monks from the Gaden Shartse Monastery will return to Carson City and South Lake Tahoe this month as part of their two-year tour of the United States.

During their Carson City visit, from Jan. 15-20, the monks will construct a Manjushri, also known as Buddha of Wisdom Sand Mandala.
