CARSON CITY — With rain pounding outside, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada broke ground inside on its new controlled entry on Thursday, Nov. 16, located at 1870 Russell Way in Carson City.

Western Nevada College is committed to helping more than 700 high school students remain eligible for the Nevada Promise Scholarship that they applied for earlier this fall. WNC is hosting a handful of financial aid meetings to ensure that Nevada Promise applicants maintain their scholarship eligibility.

Along with a High Wind Warning issued earlier, a moderate to strong atmospheric river will bring significant precipitation to the region prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Flood Watch for Carson City, Carson Valley and much of Western Nevada.

UPDATE 2:20PM: A Red Flag Warning issued earlier this morning has been canceled due to arriving precipitation. A High Wind Warning remains in effect until 4 a.m. Thursday. A Flood Watch was issued Wednesday afternoon for the Carson City region, western Nevada and Lake Tahoe.

With valley gusts expected to top 70 mph today, the National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning and Red Flag Warning for the Sierra Front including Reno, Carson City, Carson Valley and Lyon County.

Sustainable Living is the subject of tonight’s forum at the Brewery Arts Center.

While conditions remain cool and breezy, the Carson City area and the Sierra will see an active weather pattern later this week, according to the National Weather Service.

Scoring early and often, Western Nevada FC was able to knock off the East Bay FC Stompers Juniors 4-0 in the first leg of the 2017 Northwest Conference Cup. East Bay is currently the Red Division leader in the Northwest Conference; WNFC plays in the Blue Division.

Although Veterans Day was observed yesterday, there are several things today that honor our former members of the military. Battle Born Harley Davidson is throwing an appreciation party complete with food trucks. Virginia City’s annual Veterans Day Parade begins at 11 a.m. and the City of Reno will commence their parade after a short ceremony beginning at 11:11 a.m. You’ll find an abundance of craft fairs in Carson City, Carson Valley, and Dayton. On Veterans Day, we take time to honor those men and women that have served in our armed forces. The holiday is observed today, meaning schools and public offices will be closed. CARSON CITY, Nev. - The Carson High School Career and Technical Education program and Victoria Defilippi, a senior CTE student and HOSA state officer, helped Carson Middle School to create its own health science student organization, HOSA, the first middle school program of its kind for the school and the state.

Carson City Fire Department responded Thursday afternoon to a report of a power line sparking and causing a small brush fire in an area between Duck Hill Road and Goni Road northeast of Carson City and southeast of Washoe Lake.

A new scholarship through the Western Nevada College Foundation encourages students to pursue careers in education. The Dr. Eugene Paslov Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to two students who plan to dedicate their careers to education.

The next in a series of storms should arrive in the Carson City region Wednesday bringing more in the way of wind rather than significant amounts of valley rain or Sierra snow, according to the National Weather Service.

The Leisure Hour Club’s scholarship recipients and Western Nevada College will be the focus of the Club’s dinner meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 15. As part of the Club’s commitment to education, three $1,000 academic scholarships are funded at Western Nevada College annually. This year the recipients are:

Following the guidance of the state of Nevada, Carson City School District (CCSD) will be administering retroactive diplomas to all former students who qualify under the new requirements set by the Nevada Department of Education.

The weekend has ended, but with Veteran’s Day coming up, the next one will be here in just four short days. While this weekend's expected storm didn't produce precipitation here in Carson City but carried with it some snow in the higher elevations of the Sierra, the National Weather Service says expect daytime breezy conditions and night time cold temperatures for the first part of the week.

Sometime in the middle of the night, we gained an extra hour. Use those sixty minutes any way you’d like: extra time in bed, Community Yoga at Comma Coffee, or maybe doing something fun with the kids. The Nevada Artists Association is hosting a reception for their artists this afternoon. The Western Nevada College Student Veterans Club hosted a spaghetti feed fundraiser Saturday evening at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Carson City.

The Nevada State Museum and WNC Latino Cohort presented a Day of The Dead celebration on Saturday in Carson City. Admission was free at the The Nevada State Museum, made possible by support of the Carson City Culture and Tourism Authority, Western Nevada Materials, and the Nevada Mining Association.

Welcome to the weekend, Carson City. Now that we are in November, thoughts turn to the holiday season. That means craft fairs. St. Paul’s Lutheran Family on Saliman welcomes you to their annual Craftique Open House. You’ll find the Young at Heart Seniors Club hosting a faire at the Douglas County Community Center. The Carson Nugget’s Sierra Room will be home to several artisans, vendors, and crafters during today’s wine walk. There’s quite a bit more, and plenty that doesn’t involve shopping, so take a look and have a great time.
