Veterans Resource Groups Visit Food Pantries in Silver Springs, Dayton and Yerington

September 25, 2019 - 12:00pm Healthy Communities Coalition announces its new initative to host representatives from different veterans resource groups once a month at each of its volunteer-powered food pantries in Lyon County. TMCC Veterans Upward Bound shared information at the Yerington Food Pantry on September 18th. They will be on hand at the Dayton Food Pantry to share information on Wednesday, September 25 from noon to 4pm. They will also be at the Silver Stage Food Pantry to share information on Wednesday October 2 from 1pm-4pm.
UNR named 'Top School' for military and veteran student support

For its efforts in providing academic and advising support to military and veteran students, the University of Nevada, Reno has been designated as a “Top School” by the Military Advanced Education journal for its 2016 Guide to Colleges and Universities.
Disabled American Veterans gives first Western Nevada College scholarship

The Reno Chapter No. 1 Disabled American Veterans organization has awarded the first-ever $1,000 scholarship to go to a Western Nevada College student. The scholarship, administered by the Western Nevada College Foundation in Carson City, will be awarded in November to a disabled veteran, or the dependent of a disabled veteran, at a dinner in Sparks Nov. 6.
