What to do, what to do? That’s the question that starts most every weekend. If you’ve got kids, test their mettle at the annual Capitol City Triathlon. Open to kids of all ages, they will bike, run, and swim their way to the finish line. The third annual Sassabration event kicks off with a multi-colored, costume bike parade from the Brewery Arts Center to the celebration at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint. Multiple bands, vendors, non-profit booths, free swimming at the Carson Hot Springs, not to mention the yummy food and drink available make this a not-to-be-missed festival.

What are you in the mood for? The Third and Curry Farmers Market is always a great place to start off your weekend. Kids won’t mind getting up early for the Young Eagle airplane flights at the Carson City Airport – they are free of charge for kids 8 – 17, you just need to be on time for registration. The Annual Chili Cook-off returns to Glen Eagles this weekend; with live music, a craft fair, and lots of yummy stuff to eat, raising money for Honor Flight has never tasted so good. To borrow a phrase, it takes a village to raise a fair. The Carson City Fair, returning this year after hiatus in 2016, is no exception.

The weekend hasn’t even started, and I’m already exhausted just trying to decide what to do first! Live music, races, activities, and much more await you downtown as part of the Carson City Off-Road. Stewart Indian School is awash in bright colors, beadwork, and dancers from all across the country during their annual Fathers’ Day Pow Wow. Planes, trains, and automobiles take over Carson City this weekend. Steampunk ‘N’ Trains at the Nevada Railroad Museum features train rides, fun costumes, food trucks and more. You’ll find two car shows in town – the Party at the Pavilion as part of the Nevada State Fair and the Carson City Downtown Revival Car Show at the Carson Nugget. Tickets are available for a Aug. 18, 2017 VIP Celebrity Dinner the night before the Aug. 19 Carl Howell Memorial Music Festival in Carson City.

The special VIP evening dinner at Empire Ranch Golf Course, is for people to meet and mingle with the celebrities, athletes and musicians who will be in Carson City to honor fallen Carson City Sheriff’s Deputy Carl Howell, said organizer Don Alexander, who formed the nonprofit The Last Respond Fund, to raise money for the Howell family.

June has arrived, and with it the start of the seasonal Third and Curry Farmer's Market, which runs all summer long now through September.

The weekly Saturday market attracts hundreds to the parking lot at Third and Curry Streets across from the Bob McFadden Plaza in downtown Carson City, drawing crowds from all around the Reno-Tahoe region.

If you happen to be up very early on Saturday morning, you may just see some runners in the pre-dawn hours. The Reno-Tahoe Odyssey, a 178 mile relay, passes through Carson City on its way to Virginia City. A huge congratulations goes out to the Class of 2017; the Carson High graduates will get their diplomas today. New “Farm to Market” series of original prints, by local artist, Carol Brown, opens June 2nd, at Comma Coffee, 213 South Carson St, in historic downtown Carson City, across from the Sate Legislature Building. The public is invited to a free reception with the artist, in the Backseat Gallery, Wednesday, June 7, 2017, 5-7 p.m. The exhibition continues through June 29.

The Nevada Department of Agriculture has been awarded a $2 million U.S Food and Drug Administration grant that will be used to offer workshops, training and technical assistance to Nevada farmers to aid in prevention of produce-related food outbreaks.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association, Sierra-Tahoe Unit #137 donated 10 Thanksgiving boxes to local veterans. The boxes included all the food necessary to prepare the meal. A turkey with all the trimmings, potatoes, stuffing, vegetables, pumpkin pie mix, crust and the pans! In addition, canned food items, oranges and basics were included in the box.

Tickets are now on sale for the annual Celebrity Chef and Harvest Dinner, which takes place Nov. 7 at Cafe at Adele’s. This is one of three fundraisers conducted each year for The Greenhouse Project, whose mission it is to continue “growing a greener and healthier community,” according to Karen Abowd, board president, who co-owns Cafe at Adele’s with her husband, Chef Charlie Abowd.
