This week's It's Your City is a double feature, including information on Thursday's "Tell Me You Love Me" short film competition dinner and movie night on Valentine's Day at the Brewery Arts Center Grand Ballroom and the upcoming sixth annual International Film Weekend, Feb. 21-23 at the Carson City Community Center.

Looking for something different to do on Valentines Day? Wired Wednesday Digital Arts Association is having their special dinner and screening event at the Brewery Arts Center starting at 6 p.m.

The films being screened are from the contestants of the recent "Tell Me You Love Me" Short Romance Film competition. Dinner will be catered in the Grand Ballroom by Bella Vita Bistro.

The audience will have a chance to cast their votes for the Audience Choice Award.

Treat your Valentine to A Jazz Sampler for Sweethearts, an evening of sweet and hot big-band music by the Mile High Jazz Band with singer Jakki Ford at Living the Good Life Bistro, 1480 N. Carson Street, in Carson City on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Admission is free, donations welcome.

Rosebud's Dance Band and the Kiwanis Club of Carson Valley invite you to attend a Valentine's Dance.

The dance is scheduled for Saturday, February 16, 2019 at the CVIC Hall, 1604 Esmeralda Avenue in Minden.

Doors open at 7 p.m. Music playing from 7:30 to 10 p.m.

Tickets are $10 at the door. Ages 10 and under are free.

There will be a dessert bar, as well as a no-host bar. There will also be a raffle.

The weekend is not only around the corner but the roar of Street Vibrations arrives today, Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, at Battle Born Harley-Davison in Carson City. Among today's other featured events are a Muscle Powered hike, a talk about time management strategy at Rustically Divine and a reading of "Alice in Wonderland" where the Carson City Library is highlighting those celebrated book classics that have been banned at one time or another in history. The Carson City Library is seeking the public’s help in sending a message to city supervisors: Be Mine. Or something along those lines.

This week's edition of It's Your City is about love stories and films, and short films we'd love to see made that are love stories. The Carson City area digital arts community known as Wired Wednesday, in partnership with the Brewery Arts Center, will host an all-new film competition this year in the spirit of Valentine's Day.

Join us to learn about Carson City birds and make your own birdhouse to celebrate Valentine?s Day! Your birdhouse will be the perfect addition to your yard or as a gift for your Valentine! The event is available to children 8-13 years old and they must be accompanied by an adult. Supplies are provided, but limited; please register for the event at www.carson.org/CCPR.

It’s finally here, the last weekend of 2017. It’s fairly quiet around town, until Sunday night, that is. Today, Muscle Powered is leading a five-mile half-day hike along Prison Hill. Take advantage of the unseasonably warm weather, and join them. The Carson Nugget is hosting three nights of comedy this weekend: catch Myles Weber on the stage tonight. Head’s up. Galaxy Theater usually plays a movie from the past on Sundays and Wednesdays. This week, we get treated to the Christmas Classic, Die Hard. You won’t want to miss that.

SATURDAY:

Rumble, rumble, rumble. Street Vibrations brings quite a bit of traffic to the area, so please drive safely amoungst the swarms of bikes. Battle Born Harley is hosting one heck of a party, so head down there for bikes, brews, and lots of live music. For something quieter, the final weekend of 'Nightfall with Edgar Allen Poe' at the Brewery Arts Center is a great alternative. Funny lady and local favorite, Kat Simmons, is this week's featured performer at Carson Comedy inside the Nugget - stick around downtown and enjoy Southbound Train at the Westside Pour House.

When making out the list of friends and loved ones who will receive a Valentine this year, Carson City residents may consider one addition: The library.

A few days ahead of Valentine's Day, weekend venues in Carson City helped get residents and visitors in the holiday spirit.

If everything goes as planned, the sun will finally make an appearance. That’s good news for those running in the Carson High Safe and Sober 5K or in Ascent Runs’ Love Can Be Cold 5/10K at Prison Hill. If you’d rather avoid the mud, check out the Champagne and Jewelry Show inside the bigger better Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery. Holy moly, water everywhere. It’s not a bad idea to stay close to Carson City tonight. There's live music with Brother Dan at Living the Good Life, comedienne Kat Simmons at the Carson Nugget, or the documentary on Bill Cunningham at the Nevada State Museum that may be enough to tempt you out. Please be careful, drive safely, and keep an umbrella handy. Keep your fingers crossed this storm passes quickly – a full moon and lunar eclipse at sunset are visible to those without cloudy skies.

FRIDAY:

Area you ready for some football? North, south, east, west, or downtown: there’s a good time to be found: drink specials and football squares everywhere. If you couldn’t care less about the Patriot-Falcons match-up, then consider BINGO for CASI or bowling and some Valentine cookie decorating. Sundays also offer an early morning ride with Muscle Powered and some no-stress yoga. Keep reading for even more lazy day fun.
