The various teams’ performances were captured on video and sent to the University for judging.

Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum in Carson City to reopen Monday

Opened in January and closed to the public in March because of the current health crisis, the Cultural Center faced severe budget cuts.

She is a widower who lost her wife of 42 years to cancer in 2012. Sherrie is the father of three grown children. She lived in Carson City from 1991 to 2005 and happily moved back in 2018.

The Rockabilly Riot roars into town and sets up shop at Mills Park for a whole weekend of vintage rat-rods and rock-n-roll. You’ll find the Extreme Motor Officers Challenge in the park, too, so expect it to be noisy. The Pony Express rides again, as it does every year, and retraces its historic route. Keep an eye out this evening for the rider heading east. Enjoy some blues, funk and rock courtesy of the Mylo McCormick Project at Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park as part of their annual summer music series.

Unclaimed remains of 27 veterans to receive a military funeral in Fernley

The service will be held beginning at 2 p.m. at the Northern Nevada State Veterans Cemetery, located at 14 Veterans Way, in Fernley, Nev. The public is invited to attend.
US Navy accepts USNS Carson City at Friday ceremony in Alabama
Submitted by editor on Mon, 06/27/2016 - 12:57pmThe U.S. Navy on Friday accepted delivery of the seventh expeditionary fast transport USNS Carson City during a ceremony held aboard the ship at Austal USA’s shipyard in Mobile, Alabama.
EPF 7 is the second U.S. Navy ship named for the city in Nevada. The first Carson City was designated PF-50 and commissioned March 24, 1944. She was loaned to Japan in 1953 and served for nearly 20 years in the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. Carson City received two battle stars for World War II service.
USNS Carson City passes muster, artist rendering presented to Gov. Sandoval

Obituary for Edward Arthur King
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Sat, 05/28/2016 - 8:45amEdward Arthur King, died May 24, 2016, at Carson Tahoe Medical Center from the effects of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was born Dec. 4, 1937, in Los Angeles to Marcus J. and Josephine H. King.
He served in the US Navy, and later worked handling bills of lading and routing for Lee Way Motor Freight in Downey, CA.
He married the former Alyce Devorraux McDonald on Dec. 4, 1975.
In 1985 the couple moved to Carson City, where he was employed as inventory manager for American Building Company. He retired from there in 2006.

Sandoval with a commemorative coin depicting both the recently christened USNS Carson City and the historic USS Carson City, a Tacoma-class frigate commissioned by the U.S. Navy from 1944-1945.

Carson City remembers Sept. 11: World Trade Center I-Beam at Mills Park symbolic of strength
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 09/11/2015 - 1:21pmCarson City residents gathered Friday in Mills Park with law officers and firefighters to remember the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
The service was held surrounding a I-beam memorial that was given to Carson City in 2010 by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Among the flowers placed on the beam was as an American flag presented to the Carson City Fire Department by Michael Manfredo. The flag was given to the Carson City man by a son of one of the 343 fighters killed at the World Trade Center that day.

The beam was given to Carson City by the Port Authority of New York to mark that fateful day. The public is invited.
