Senator Square: CHS students work alongside medical professionals at RAM event

Last weekend HOSA members, also known as Future Health Professionals, volunteered at the RAM medical event held at Carson High School. HOSA students served as interpreters, place holders, registration assistants, dental scribes, and vision care assistants.

The students were able to put the skills that they learn in class to use. They also gained valuable experience by working alongside dentists, doctors, nurses, and optometrists. The RAM event served more than 900 people in the Carson City area.

ESL Honors Students and Tutors

An 11th Year celebration award ceremony was given to honor all ESL tutors, students and new U.S. citizens of the ESL In-Home Program of Northern Nevada. The event was held at the Governor's Mansion. Ethnic Salvadoran food was supplied by La Santaneca Restaurant. Entertainment was supplied by Metzonali Folklore Dancers.

Carson City woman starts tutoring business

Jaspreet Gill, a local college math instructor and longtime teacher, turned her passion for teaching into a profession, starting her new business, Carson City Tutor, last month.

Jaspreet holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno. She has been helping K-12 and college level students for eight years in Carson City. While working for WNC’s Academic Skills Center and other tutoring agencies, she has prepared several students for math and science competency tests, including the Nevada Proficiency Exam.

WNC, school district partners make ‘Jump Start ‘ early college program a success

Jump Start, a collaborative effort between Western Nevada College and five Nevada school districts to offer early college opportunities, is a success. That is the word from high schools in the region as its first year winds down.

From the grades being earned to the opportunities being afforded, high school juniors and seniors from 11 high schools are about to finish the first year of the Jump Start partnership by succeeding at a high rate.

Therefore, we teach Adults – parents and grandparents of ESL school children.
