Tahoe planning agency board OKs 2017 regional transportation plan

STATELINE, Nev. — The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Governing Board on Wednesday unanimously approved the 2017 Regional Transportation Plan, Linking Tahoe. President Barack Obama was cheered enthusiastically Wednesday at the 20th Lake Tahoe Summit, an annual gathering of federal and state leaders from California and Nevada who are dedicated to protecting the Sierra's crown jewel.

"I've never been here," President Obama told the crowd Wednesday at Harvey's Outdoor Arena in Stateline. "Its not that I didn't want to come, but nobody invited me."

Public bus from South Tahoe to Carson City may be cut due to lack of funding

Unless a new source of funding comes through, the Tahoe Transportation District Board may cut bus service that runs from South Lake Tahoe to Carson City.

A key piece of funding for the transit system was cut when federal highway officials changed Lake Tahoe from a rural area to an urban area. A decision is expected Oct. 2.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada travel in style, thanks to foundation grant

The E. L. Wiegand Foundation presented a $70,000 grant to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada to replace the organization’s aging vans following a visit to Carson City from Foundation President Kristen Avansino.

“Last fall I decided to visit the Club unannounced,” Avansino said. “It was my first visit to the new facility since I had not been able to visit the Club’s Teen Center grand opening. I toured the building with Program Director Matt Sampson and was truly impressed by his enthusiasm and assessments. The building was well maintained and, obviously, well used.”
