CARSON CITY, Nev. — Finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation show initial claims for unemployment insurance totaled 58,641 regular initial claims for the week ending April 11, down 20,644 claims, or 26 percent compared to last week’s total of 79,285.

State Unemployment Site Down Temporarily to Improve System Performance and Access beginning at 1 p.m.

The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) has announced their unemployment insurance (UInv) website (http://ui.nv.gov) will be down on Saturday, April 18, 2020 at 1 p.m. until 7 p.m., a period of lowest traffic, in order to improve system performance and access expansion for filers.

During this time, all unemployment insurance functions, including unemployment insurance filing will not be functional. Filers are encouraged to visit the site after 7 p.m. on Saturday evening.

Nevada’s request for a major disaster declaration, opening up additional paths for federal assistance under the national emergency proclamation, has been approved, Gov. Steve Sisolak announced Saturday afternoon.

The declaration, which was requested by the state on Tuesday, will allow federal dollars to flow to Nevada to support Carson City and local governments’ ongoing responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. Federal funding is expected to be made available to governmental agencies and certain private nonprofit organizations for emergency protective measures.

During this contact, the motorist open fired on Sgt. Ben Jenkins, who was struck and killed. The motorist stole the Sergeant’s uniform and fled the scene in Sgt. Jenkins’ patrol vehicle. Following a search that lasted several hours, the suspect, John Dabritz, a 65-year-old White Pine resident, was located and taken into custody with the assistance of multiple agencies.
