Author Teri Case of Carson City wins Best New Fiction, 2018 American Fiction Awards

Carson City author Teri Case, who was raised on Tiger Drive and penned a novel by the same name "Tiger Drive," has won Best New Fiction with the 2018 American Fiction Awards for her work.

Symposium to highlight social media uses

The Carson City Visitors Bureau is hosting a Social Media Symposium for rural marketing and tourism organizations in the state.

“It’s an opportunity for the marketing community to come together,” said Kyle Horvath, social media director for the visitors bureau. “It’s a place people can feel comfortable to bounce ideas off each other and learn from others’ mistakes.”

The symposium will begin at 9 a.m. Dec. 5 and 6 at the Adams Hub for Innovation, 111 W. Proctor St.

Locally produced fire safety children's book featured Thursday at Carson City Library

Carson City firefighters have a new tool to teach fire safety. "Fire Safety Day," an easy-to-read children's book, follows Owen as he comes home to tell his mom what he learned in school that day.

The book will be featured during two Storytime sessions at the Carson City Library beginning at 10:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on July 24.

Parents and children can simply show up at the library for Storytime and get a free copy of the new book in English or Spanish.

The Bike Carson-Tahoe bike shop is hosting an Ibis Bicycles demo day today, Thursday, July 11th, from 5 to 8PM. Meet at the shop at 4:30 to carpool up to Ash Canyon, or meet at the water towers (follow the Ash Canyon backcountry access road up the hill) at 5:00.

Bicycle Clinic at Bike Carson-Tahoe

Bike Carson-Tahoe will be doing a clinic at the shop on Wednesday night, May 1st, at 6:30 PM. Owner Chris Huber will cover flat repair, a lesson on gearing (numerical explanation, gear overlap, what gear to use, etc.), and also touch on group riding etiquette.

What Huber knows is the world of cycling.
Huber is a former professional cyclist who had several top-10 finishes in the World Cycling Championships and held the speed record for a self-powered vehicle in 1993.
