The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help with information into Saturday's armed robbery that happened at a Subway sandwich restaurant in Gardnerville.

After back to back three-day weekends, this one may feel a little short. Grab onto the hours allotted and have a good time. The monthly downtown wine walk is a great way to catch up with friends after the bustle of the holiday season. The annual Be Bold, Run in the Cold Winter Trail Series offers the Winter Round-up 5 or 10K. If staying active is a resolution, then a brisk run in our hills fits the bill. For something less strenuous, you can join our Parks and Recreation Department for a Winter Wonderland Walk along the Carson River.

Downtown Carson City ice skating rink will not return this winter

Following eight seasons of skating and in need of approximately $100,000 worth of new equipment and repair, the Arlington Square Ice Rink in downtown Carson City will not be in operation this winter, according to city officials.

And the winners are, everyone. The third annual Carson High School vs. Douglas High School Charity Basketball Game lit up CHS Wednesday, Nov. 15 and, as rivalry was put aside, it turned out to be the most successful basketball game fundraiser in CHS history with $10,000 raised for the seven students injured in the Nov. 9 vehicle accident on Kings Canyon Road.

The Carson High School HOSA, Future Health Professionals had a Health Career Display Competition with 34 teams from 3 Health Science II classes. Each was judged on the display board’s information, artistic value and originality as well as a 5 minute oral presentation.

CHS opened its doors a little longer, a little wider, and totally unplugged for Sept. 11-17, 2017. Students and staff participated in daily activities supporting and encouraging a non-digital learning environment. Each day, five standards of Social and Emotional Learning were touched by encouraging students to power-down their phones and unplug.

How adventurous are you? Ascent Runs continues their Be Bold, Run in the Cold Winter Trail Series with a five or ten kilometer run starting at Centennial Park. If you’d like a less strenuous outdoor activity, then the Downtown Business Association’s monthly Wine Walk is a perfect choice. The wine walk is a rain, snow, or shine event, so bring an umbrella. Senator Square: Students beat teachers in Carson High School dodgeball tournament


The annual Carson High School Dodgeball Tournament took place Dec. 6-16 in the Carson High School big gym during lunch, and both the victory and bragging rights went to the students and not to the teachers.

The competition was fierce with rubber balls flying all over the place and many of the younger CHS teachers strutting their stuff out on the gym floor, battling feverishly to defeat the students.

How beautiful it is when businesses and individuals in the Carson City community give not only their time, but also their resources and services to educate and, in many instances, provide some type of financial benefit for the students of Carson City.

There are so many businesses — way too many to list — who have given time and time again to Carson City students from Kindergarten through grade 12, so that they might go on trips locally or across the country, usually having to do with academics or sports.

Even though homecoming has now concluded, Carson High School is by no means finished with its current and upcoming events. Not only is the CHS National Honor Society Blood Drive coming up, Oct. 6 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the small gym, but Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval proclaimed Oct. 3-7 to be the “Week of Respect” throughout the state of Nevada.
