Pioneer High School Senior Highlight

Pioneer High School’s Senior in the Spotlight for the month of April is Isaiah Zacarias.

Isaiah is friendly, kind, helpful, and respectful. He is always willing to help around campus with any tasks. Isaiah moved to Carson City from northern California when he was seven years old. Isaiah has been attending PHS since his freshman year, and he has always been very involved in campus activities.

Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada Unveils Mosaic Mural

The Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, through partnering with Arts for Children of Nevada, came up with a mosaic art program that allowed both youth and teens to create, paint and design their own permanent mural.

Young Women pursuing STEM Fields to be honored by Society of Women Engineers in Reno banquet

This April, the Society of Women Engineers, Sierra Nevada Section, will host their seventh annual banquet to support Northern Nevada and Northern California area youth exploring science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

High school teachers from around the region are invited to nominate female students in their classes to receive this award of merit. Those students who are nominated are then invited to attend the banquet –along with their friends, families, supporters and teachers – to receive a certificate and accolades on stage and with fanfare.

This is the fourth in a series of columns summarizing my Controller’s Annual Report for fiscal year 2018 (FY18).

The first two columns showed that since FY06 state spending has grown faster than Nevada’s economy, thus imposing an ever-larger real burden on Nevada families and businesses, whose real incomes are lower now than in FY06. The third one noted Health and Social Services spending, the largest budget item, has grown most rapidly by far, driven greatly by federal health care mandates and funding.

Three Carson City art students named 2019 Scholastic Art Award winners

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Museum of Art announced the 2019 Scholastic Art Award Winners, and on the list were a senior and junior from Carson High and one seventh-grader from Carson Middle School. Emily Richardson, 17-years-old, Sarah Woods, 17-years-old, Keira Serpa, 13-years-old, were all recognized as Gold Key winners.

Sitcom pilot filmed at Carson Nugget featuring SNL alum to air daily on Charter cable

UPDATE: Episodes of the new television sitcom "Casino Boss" will begin airing Monday, Dec. 31, 2018 on Charter Spectrum Cable Channel 190, the Carson Nugget said.
The program will then air daily at 4 p.m., 8 p.m. and 12 a.m. until Jan. 31, 2019.

The pilot episode of “Casino Boss,” a TV sitcom filmed this summer in Carson City about the inner workings of a casino starring comedian, actor and Saturday Night Live alum Joe Piscopo will be shown on Charter cable sometime in the near future.
