June is Fire Season

Kids Run-4-Fun in Carson City

A free race for children will be on Saturday, July 3, from 10 a.m. to noon at Edmonds Sports Complex. Join the Tahoe Trail Blazers Outdoor Adventure Club for fun runs, obstacle courses, bounce house, pottery painting, food and drinks,and lots more fun for families in support of kids' health and fitness. There will be a half-mile and mile race. The Edmonds Sports Complex is located at 1555 Livermore Lane in Carson City.

Carson City men face battery charges after fight at Tahoe beach

Two Carson City men face charges after a fight was reported in the Tahoe/Incline Village area, in which the victim was allegedly hit in the head with a rock.
Dennis James Harrison, 21, faces a felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon. He is being held on $30,000 bond. Joseph Gonzales, 19, faces a misdemeanor battery charge. His bail was set at $1,132.
According to the arrest report, Carson City deputies responded to the Chimney Beach area along with Washoe County officers on Wednesday afternoon in reference to a fight involving three men.

Carson River Coalition ramps effort to fight aquatic invasive species threat

While much-needed attention is being paid to Lake Tahoe regarding invasive species such as the quagga mussel and Asian clams, there is growing concern among local wildlife biologists and water scientists of similar threats along the Carson River watershed.

Gibbons to defend prison closing

Gov. Jim Gibbons will defend his plan to close Nevada State Prison in Carson City at a Board of Prisons meeting tomorrow afternoon, saying that they do not expect to lay off any employees.

The governor's office has provided the following talking points to defend Gibbons' decision to close NSP, which were made available to Carson Now:

Nevada State Prison in Carson City has approximately 310 full-time employees (all classifications). Of those employees, only 40 percent actually reside in Carson City. The breakdown by percentage is:

Douglas County Sheriff's Office issues release in stabbing incident

On Sunday, at approximately 1:30 pm, officers of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to 1268 Esther Wy, Minden, for an unknown disturbance.
An anonymous female who resides in the neighborhood called DCSO dispatch and advised that there was some kind of disturbance occurring at 1268 Esther Wy.
Upon arrival at the location, deputies learned that 39 year-old Keith Watrous, a resident of Carson City, had entered the residence of his ex-girlfriend, 37 year-old Sabrina Pallo, without her permission.

Douglas County authorities investigate stabbing; two injured in domestic dispute

Two people were injured today after a domestic dispute that happened in the Johnson Lane area, Douglas County authorities said in a press statement. In the dispute a man was stabbed in the back and found traveling in a car with a female where they wound up at a Carson City residence. The man was taken by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center. The other victim in the dispute was taken to Carson Tahoe Hospital.

Couple face charges after alleged indecent exposure incident at a Carson City park

A Carson City woman and a South Lake Tahoe man were arrested Thursday and face charges including indecent exposure, disorderly conduct and obstruction, after witnesses reported inappropriate behavior at Mills Park near the playground.
Lisa Maria Ferguson, 41, faces charges of gross misdemeanor indecent exposure and misdemeanor disorderly conduct. She is being held on $2,737 bail. Abel Perez Jr., 28, of South Lake Tahoe, faces disorderly conduct and obstruction charges. Both are misdemeanors. His bail was set at $744.

Two dead in Highway 50 crash near Carson City

Two people are dead and two are injured after a fiery three-vehicle accident on Highway 50 this morning near the Carson City and Lyon County borders in Mound House.

Carson Tahoe upgrades patient care at the Regional Medical Center

Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare (CTRH) announces several new upgrades that improve patient care and safety at the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center (CTRMC). These developments include televisions in surgical waiting areas, an Emergency Department IT system complete with patient monitors, and emergency cots to prepare for crisis situations. These developments were made possible with help from the CTRH Auxiliary and Carson City Health and Human Services.

Lake Tahoe to celebrate 21 years of celebrity golf at American Century Championship

LAKE TAHOE — The American Century Championship, the celebrity golf tournament at Lake Tahoe celebrates its 21 birthday, July 13-18. Swanky's Speakeasy fundraiser for Carson Tahoe Cancer Center

Carson City physicians will be serving tables during the Celebrity Docs Swanky's Speakeasy of the 1920s to raise money for the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center. A new 2010 car will also be raffled for the center. The event will be held on Saturday, June 12, at Glen Eagles Restaurant, 3700 North Carson Street. From Carson City to Lake Tahoe, hungry bears in search of holiday barbecues

It's a holiday weekend with lots of folks heading to campgrounds throughout the region. And where there's campers, there's bound to be bears.
Carson City and Lake Tahoe have experienced an active spring, including one bear breaking into a Carson City garage. The bear was taken down.

Carson City weather to remain unstable through Friday
