Marlette Lake to open for the 2011 fishing season
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 07/13/2011 - 1:12amMarlette Lake, which is located between Carson City and Lake Tahoe, will open for the 2011 fishing season on July 15. That season will close on Sept. 30.
Fishing hours are one hour before sunrise to two hours after sunset. The limit is zero fish. Catch and release only.
Only artificial flies and lures with single barbless hooks may be used.
Be advised that this lake is a five mile hike (one-way) with an elevation gain of about 1,200 feet from Spooner State Park at Spooner Summit.
There is no overnight camping permitted at Marlette Lake.

ANGEL LAKE, ELKO COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports: The road is open, but there is still a LOT of snow around the lake. The lake is about 80% ice covered with some fishable water. Unfortunately, there is enough snow on the ice, you can't tell what is safe and what isn't. With this week's warm temps and some wind, next weekend may be a different story.

Hobart Reservoir, Nevada to open for 2011 fishing season
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 04/27/2011 - 12:03amHobart Reservoir, a small, high-mountain reservoir, located at an elevation of 7,600 feet in the mountains between Carson City and Lake Tahoe, will open for the 2011 fishing season on May 1.
Because of its high elevation and location, this reservoir is normally covered with ice, and surrounded by deep snow drifts, when it opens on May 1.
It will remain open to fishing through September 30.
Snow possible in Carson City late tonight into Thursday
Submitted by editor on Wed, 04/06/2011 - 7:31amAnother blast of winter weather is expected to reach the Carson City area tonight with 1 to 3 inches of snow expected in the valleys and up to 8 inches at Lake Tahoe.
Cold air, more snow and gusty winds has prompted the National Weather Service in Reno to issue a winter weather advisory later tonight for Carson City, Carson Valley, Lake Tahoe and Reno through Thursday morning.

— The Fort Churchill Cooling Ponds, near Wabuska.
— Applicable open waters (Bass Pond, Beaver Slough, Crappie Pond, Hinkson Slough, North Pond and the Walker River), all on the Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area (MVWMA), near Yerington.
All of the waters listed above will close on Sept. 30. If you are interested in fishing at any of those waters on Opening Day, here is some miscellaneous information:

Mother arrested for leaving son alone in filthy home for 12 days
Submitted by admin on Mon, 10/04/2010 - 5:08pmA Carson City woman was arrested Friday afternoon after deputies found her high-school-aged son had been left alone for 12 days in a home filled with trash and pet waste, but little food.
Kelly Pray, 34, was arrested for gross misdemeanor child neglect.
Deputies were alerted by school officials who were suspicious of the boy being absent from class. What they found at the home in the 3000 block of Sunrise Drive left them fighting for air to keep from vomiting.
