Motorist injured, 25 cattle killed in two-vehicle crash in Douglas County

On Tuesday afternoon, March 11, at approximately 3:53 pm, Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash on State Route 88 at the intersection with Waterloo Lane in Douglas County involving two vehicles.

Family of Carson City man killed by hit-and-run driver asks for help locating the suspect

The family of a 31-year-old Carson CIty pedestrian who was struck on Highway 50 near Stateline at Lake Tahoe in the early morning hours of Aug. 10, 2013 seeks help in locating the driver who fled the scene, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Cody J. Dobson was walking on the highway, or may have stumbled from the adjacent sidewalk, just east of the MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa at approximately 3:13 am prior to being struck by a motor vehicle, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen.

Plastic bag ban begins in South Lake Tahoe

A ban on single use plastic bags is now the law in the city limits of South Lake Tahoe, Calif. Local grocery stores have been preparing for the new ordinance that was approved Oct. 15, 2013 by the South Lake Tahoe City Council.

Mike Schouten, who with his wife Kim own the South Lake Tahoe Grocery Outlet, says they have been prepping their cashiers on how to present the lack of plastic bags to their customers. They've also been communicating with their customers as to what to expect so no one will be surprised on their next shopping trip.

Douglas County side at Lake Tahoe sees 24 arrests overnight during New Year's Eve period

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reports 24 arrests during the New Year’s Eve celebration in the casino core area of Stateline at Lake Tahoe.

The celebratory crowd seemed no larger than in past years. U.S. Highway 50 was closed to vehicle traffic at about 11:40 p.m. for public safety reasons. The celebrants were allowed to flow into the roadway as they celebrated the coming of the New Year.

Carson City area casinos see 1.35 percent increase in October gaming revenue

Gambling revenue in the Carson City ticked up by 1.35 percent in October compared with a year ago, the Nevada Gaming Control Board reports Wednesday. Statewide,
revenues are down 2.6 percent.

Casinos in Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville and Douglas County with the exception of Stateline took in $8,073,373 for the month of October in gaming. In all, Nevada casinos brought in $954 million for the month.

Forest Service considers year-round expansion plans at Lake Tahoe's Heavenly resort

Environmental analysis by the U.S. Forest Service and other agencies a Heavenly Mountain Resort proposal to expand year-round, non-skiing activities at the Lake Tahoe resort that straddles the Nevada and California borders.

New activities planned for the resort feature zipline and skycycle canopy tours, a mountain bike park, a ropes course, water activities, hiking trails, mountain excursion tours and nature interpretation. Heavenly is also proposing to create a snow cat emergency evacuation route for the gondola line.

Carson City area casinos see September gaming profits drop, Lake Tahoe sees big win

Casinos in Carson City and Carson Valley report a decline of nearly 4.2 percent in September gaming profits over 2012 figures but just up the hill at Lake Tahoe, the casinos at Stateline saw gaming "win" climb by 23 percent, Nevada Gaming Control Board reports Thursday.

Overall gaming in the Silver State for September was healthy, with a 7.4 percent gaming "win" with profits of $958,805,870. For the fiscal year, July 1, 2013 through Sept. 30, 2013, gaming related profits has increased 2.97 percent.

Lake Tahoe woman hits $1.4 million slot jackpot at MontBleu

A South Shore Lake Tahoe woman won $1.4 million at MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa Wednesday, the largest single win in the property’s seven year history.

The lucky Tahoe local, in her 30s who wished to remain anonymous, hit the big payload on the IGT Wheel of Fortune® progressive slot for a total of $1,407,656.68 Wednesday evening in the High Limit Room. The winner played $100 before hitting the jackpot.

“Dreams do come true,” said Brett Hunn, director of marketing at MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa. “This is MontBleu biggest slot hit and I’m betting there’s more to come.”

Carson City area casinos see slight increase in August gaming revenue

Carson City area casinos saw a 1.31 percent increase in gaming revenue for the month of August, the state's gaming control board reports Monday.

Statewide, Nevada reported a total “gaming win” of $955,281,446 for the month, an 11.17 percent increase compared to August 2012.

Casinos in Carson City, Gardnerville and Minden took in $8,763,685 in gaming revenue for the month which led to the increase over August, 2012 winnings.

Carson City sheriff deputies make several misdemeanor arrests during weekend

A 21-year-old Carson City man faces a gross misdemeanor charge of child endangerment/abuse and misdemeanor domestic battery after he was arrested Sept. 22, in the 3000 block of Florentine Drive.

According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to an Airport Road address for a domestic battery. Officers report the victim, who is pregnant, and the suspect were arguing and the man pushed the victim out of the front door of the apartment. The victim told officers they were arguing because the man wanted to go to the bar rather than spend time with her, the arrest report states.

NHP: Carson City man, Cody J. Dobson, dies from injuries in Aug. 10 Lake Tahoe hit and run

Cody J. Dobson, the 31-year-old Carson CIty man who was stuck by a motor vehicle on Highway 50 near Stateline at Lake Tahoe last month, has died. He passed away from injuries on Friday, Aug. 23, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

On the morning of Aug. 10, NHP troopers were dispatched to a hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian who was struck just east of the casino corridor near Lake Parkway in Douglas County, said Trooper Chuck Allen.

Carson City area casinos see 3 percent decrease in July gaming profits

Carson City area casinos saw a 3 percent decline in gaming profits for the month of July, the Nevada Gaming Control Board reports Friday.

Casinos in Carson City, Gardnerville, Minden and all other areas of Douglas County except Stateline, saw a gaming "win" of $8,435,440 for the month compared to July 2012, which saw a "win" of $8,700,186. The decrease amounts to 3.04 percent.

Casinos at South Shore Lake Tahoe led the Silver State in gaming profits for July. Casinos in Stateline took in $32,371,760 in gaming-related profits or "win" compared to July 2012, a 9.23 percent increase.

Battery and drug arrests keep Carson City authorities busy over weekend

Carson City sheriff's patrol officers made a number of assault and drug-related arrests over the weekend, several of which were for felony possession. Among the arrests:

A 19-year-old woman faces a felony drug charge after Carson City authorities found she and a friend, also 19, to be under the influence, inhaling canned pressurized air around children and families at Mills Park.

Stalled Chateau project in South Lake Tahoe gets new legs with building permit

After years of limbo and uncertainty, the Chateau project at the corner of Highway 50 and Stateline in South Lake Tahoe will once again see the light of day.

The city of South Lake Tahoe issued a building permit Friday for the $400 million project, referred to as "the hole" by many locals, which has been stalled since 2008 after financing dried up.

“Thank you to City Council and staff for working extensive hours on getting this project started again and reinvigorating the local economy,” said South Lake Tahoe Mayor Tom Davis.

Forest Service begins thinning Friday on west side of Fallen Leaf Lake

Forest thinning on public land along the west side of Fallen Leaf Lake will begin Friday, Aug. 16, the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit announced Thursday. Thinning will take place south of the dam and will move closer to the dam in a couple of weeks.

The Forest Service will issue a forest order to close a portion of the area from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily beginning Aug. 19, through Oct. 11 for public safety due to heavy equipment operations and the felling of trees.

A 31-year-old Carson City man remains in critical condition Monday after being struck by a vehicle that sped away in the Stateline area of Lake Tahoe on Highway 50 early Saturday morning, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

A 31-year-old Carson City man was critically injured early Saturday morning at Lake Tahoe after being hit by a Dodge pickup that sped away on Highway 50 and Lake Parkway in Stateline, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

This hit and run was report 3:13 a.m. The 31-year-old Carson City man was walking on the road just east of the MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa when he was hit. It is possible the man may have been struck by more than one vehicle, said Trooper Chuck Allen.

Carson City casinos see 2 percent increase in June gaming profits, statewide down 4.8 percent

While statewide gaming profits were down by 4.8 percent in June, Carson City area casinos saw a 2 percent increase over 2012 figures, the Nevada Gaming Control Board reports Friday morning.

Carson City casinos, which include Garderville, Minden and Topaz, took in a gaming "win" of $8,396,690 for a 2.03 percent increase compared to June 2012. Carson City area casinos are down in gaming profits by 1.56 percent for the fiscal year.

Carson City casinos report 7.4 percent increase in May gaming profits

Carson City area casinos saw its gaming profits increase by 7.4 percent in May, the Nevada Gaming Control Board reports Thursday. Statewide, casinos saw an overall increase of 1.37 percent for the month.

Casinos in Carson City, Gardnerville, Minden and all other areas of Douglas County except Lake Tahoe report a gaming "win" or profit for the month that totals $8,858,762 over May 2012 figures.

Casinos in the south shore Lake Tahoe area of Stateline also did well for the month, posting a gaming profit increase of 9.7 percent or $14,632,643 over 2012 figures for the month.

Lake Tahoe summer shuttle service to Sand Harbor begins June 15

The East Shore Express, a park and ride bus that runs from Incline Village to Sand Harbor, opens for a second season for Lake Tahoe visitors and locals.

Buses will operate Saturdays and Sundays beginning the weekends of June 15-16 and June 22-23 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Daily operations begin Saturday, June 29 through Sept. 2 with service from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and run every 20 minutes on weekends. Hours of operation on the Fourth of July are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Carson City gaming profits down in April, Reno and Lake Tahoe see double-digit increases

Carson City area casinos report a loss in gaming profit for April, the Nevada Gaming Control Board reports Monday. Meanwhile, Reno and South Shore Lake Tahoe casinos saw big gains.

Statewide, gaming profits in Nevada fell slightly by 0.16 percent. Nevada casinos made $854,293,047 for the month. Carson City area casinos, which include those in Minden and Gardnerville, fell 2.66 percent, taking in April gaming profits of $7,883,290.

Reno casinos reported a gaming "win" of $44,143,808, up 15.3 percent over April 2012 figures.
