Two-acre fire sweeps through 5 Silver Springs properties, 3 treated for smoke inhalation

UPDATE TUESDAY: Central Lyon County Fire responded Monday night to a structure fire at the Five Star Mobile Home Park in the 1300 block of 5th Street in Silver Springs. According to witnesses, the fire burned at least one mobile home. No injuries have been reported. The fire was knocked down at around 9:30 p.m. We will update as more information becomes available.

Central Lyon Fire Protection District responded Sunday to an interface fire in Silver Springs where the fire spread to approximately 2 acres over 5 properties. The fire consumed two outbuildings, 1 structure and multiple vehicles.

State museums in Nevada offer free admission for active-duty military families

CARSON CITY — Nevada’s state museums are once again taking part in the national Blue Star Museums program, providing free admission to active-duty military personnel and their families.

The National Endowment for the Arts and Blue Star Families program, now in its 10th year, launched the 2019 program on Saturday, May 18 – Armed Forces Day – and it will stay in effect through the Labor Day Weekend.

'Star Wars' themed bicycle event Saturday to benefit Carson City Schools Foundation

CARSON CITY — Set for Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, at Fritsch Elementary School, the Bicycle Fun & Safety Day will benefit the Carson City Schools Foundation. Sponsored by Carson Tahoe Health and hosted by the Carson City School District, the Nevada Department of Transportation, Safe Routes to School, local bike clubs and shops, the inaugural event will serve as a proving ground to acquaint experienced and less experienced bike riders with their eco-friendly transport mechanisms.
