The Sears Hometown Store of Carson City has been named a 2017 “Sears Hometown Premier Store” for consistently offering the highest level of customer service, as well as outstanding store performance and quality standards.

The Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation is hosting an Open House at the historic Wungnema House located in Mills Park, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 27, 2017. Admission to the open house is free. This will be an opportunity to learn about this historic building and about the Foundation.

This summer is flying by and the fun is heating up.

Summer weekends make me wish I had a clone. With all the hustle and bustle in town, there is just no way to do and see it all. Start the day at the Silver Dollar Car Classic and you can get your fill of shiny chrome and breakfast, too; the Kiwanis will be serving up pancakes until 10:30 a.m. The Downtown Carson City Wine Walk has been infiltrated by the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival. Several of the stops will be hosting musicians, in addition to vino.

Hot Summer fun is in store on Saturday, July 29 from 3 PM to 10 PM on South Virginia St. in downtown Reno. Compression! Art and Fire, in its’ tenth year of production by Controlled Burn, Nevada’s premier Fire Art Performance Troupe, returns to the Artown lineup of special events. Featuring Playa style entertainment in the form of Art Cars, Musicians, Unique Vendors, Work Shop for aspiring Fire Art Spinners, Aerialists, A Fire Art “Garden”, a Playa Wear Contest with cash prizes, Taiko Drummers, and a big Fire Art show at 7:30 PM on the RETRAC stage, just South of the Eldorado.

The Jazz and Beyond festival committee announced Thursday the winner of the 2017 poster and program cover art contest is William Smith, a member of the Nevada Artists Association.

Join the Carson City Library this summer with our Summer Learning Challenge this Saturday, June 10, 2017 through August 4, 2017. Our Summer Learning Challenge encourages and rewards readers of all ages while also providing fun educational programs and special events.

If you happen to be up very early on Saturday morning, you may just see some runners in the pre-dawn hours. The Reno-Tahoe Odyssey, a 178 mile relay, passes through Carson City on its way to Virginia City. A huge congratulations goes out to the Class of 2017; the Carson High graduates will get their diplomas today. The Virginia & Truckee Railroad begins its ninth season as a major visitor attraction and local’s favorite Memorial Day Weekend, May 27-28, with round trip steam trains plying the 16-mile route between Carson City and Virginia City.

Nevada agencies and organizations have worked to spread awareness of archaeological and historic preservation efforts throughout the state, encouraging both residents and visitors to explore and learn about Nevada’s significant archaeological and historical treasures.

ELKO, Nev. — The Nevada Division of Tourism recognized outstanding members of the state’s rural tourism industry at the VolunTourism Awards Dinner April 27 in Elko. The awards ceremony was a highlight of the state’s annual Rural Roundup conference.

Suspect Terrane performs an entertaining eclectic spectrum of acoustic music, drawing on the influences of bluegrass, western swing, folk, and rock, and pulling it all together with rich vocal harmonies. They will be at the Brewery Arts Center MHJ Black Box Theater, on Saturday, April 29 at 7 p.m.

Keep America Beautiful and The Coca-Cola Company are working together to address one of the primary barriers to recycling in public spaces by making access to recycling bins more readily available and convenient through the 2016 Coca-Cola/Keep America Beautiful Public Space Recycling Bin Grant Program.
