Soroptimist International of Carson City is proud to host Luna Fest, a screening of wonderful short films by and about women. The virtual event will be available beginning May 20th for 48 hours to conveniently view in the comfort of your own home.

In a continuing series of profiles, Soroptimist International of Carson City welcomes the community join us in congratulating 2021 “Women Helping Women” honoree Katie Leao Geiser, who is among eight Carson City area women to be honored at our Feb. 18 virtual event.

Soroptimist International of Carson City is pleased to announce our “Women Helping Women” Honorees to be recognized for their dedication to improving the lives of women or girls in our community, at our Virtual “Celebrating Women Helping Women” Recognition Event, via Zoom, on February 18, 2021 from 6:30 pm to 8 pm.

Soroptimist International of Carson City is seeking nominations for its annual Ruby Award. The Soroptimist Ruby Award honors women who, through their professional or personal efforts, are making a difference in the lives of women or girls in the areas of health, education, and economic and social development and inspires and encourages other women.

Do you know of a woman in our Carson City community who is dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls and should be recognized for her efforts? Soroptimist International of Carson City is accepting sponsorship submissions for our 2021 “Women Helping Women” honorees.

Soroptimist International of Carson City joins with our Partnership Sponsor, Allison MacKenzie, to invite businesses, nonprofits and local agencies to sponsor a woman from their company or from the community as a “Women Helping Women” Honoree in recognition of her dedication to improving the lives of women or girls. Honoree sponsorship submissions are due by December 31, 2020. Honorees will be recognized at our “Celebrating Women Helping Women” event, to be held virtually on February 18, 2021 from 6:30 pm to 8 pm.

Soroptimist International of Carson City invites the public to join our 12 noon, Sept. 23 program meeting via Zoom to hear about a new non-profit in town. Under the non-profit umbrella of The American Tea Mistresses International, fundraising is underway to create Lighthouse Lodge Re-Entry Services for non-violent offenders needing assistance with reintegration into our community after being released from the Carson City Jail or the Nevada State Prison.

Soroptimist International of Carson City is presenting a “Let’s Get Acquainted” orientation meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 30. The public is invited to attend the event online via Zoom.

The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada in Carson City is facing a possible closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a shortfall of funding. The Museum is now open and ready to serve all the families from this lovely region, and there are numerous ways the community can help.

Happenings around the capital city Thursday include a cardio and strength connection class offered through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, the launch of Thursday trivia night at Bella Vita Bistro, a Muscle Powered afternoon hike at Linear Ditch, plus Soroptimist International of Carson City hosts "Celebrating Women Helping Women" at the Carson Nugget. There's also a joint meeting of the school board and the board of supervisors, and a documentary viewing and discussion of "Screenagers" hosted by the Carson City School District. Carson City Soroptimist will present the Live Your Dream Award, five scholarships, and recognize four Girls of the Month during its January program meeting. The meeting is open to the public, with prior reservations required. It will be Wednesday, Jan. 22, noon to 1 p.m., at Glen Eagles Restaurant.

Anticipation of graduation and trepidation about the future are the thoughts running through the veins of the Carson High School Class of 2019 as they contemplate walking onto the football field as high school seniors and bouncing off the football field as CHS graduates looking forward to the new places and faces of tomorrow.

Soroptimist International of Carson City has partnered with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, to ensure every child in foster care receives an Easter basket this year.

Soroptimist International of Carson City is accepting applications from non-profit organizations in the Carson City community for funding grants.

Good day Carson City and welcome to the middle of the work week. Today is Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019. We're looking at mostly sunny skies ahead today and for the remainder of the week, with highs in the low 50s today and warming into the mid 50s through Sunday.

Carson City Soroptimist will honor five Girls of the Month during its Program Meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 23, noon until 1 p.m., at Glen Eagles Restaurant.

This meeting is open to the public, with prior reservations required. There is no charge to attend, however a plated lunch with choice of entrees, selected in advance, is available for $16. Soroptimist International of Carson City will host a special evening event to present information about club activities, as well as about projects to which it contributes nationally and globally. This gathering is not just for members, although members enjoy warm friendships and most will be there to enjoy themselves, but is also open to the public. A light supper and beverages will be provided. There is no charge to attend, however prior reservations are required.

The CHS Class of 2018 is going to step onto the football field as a group of students without a diploma and step off the football field as high school graduates with a diploma and a new wilderness in front of them.

High school students in times past might remember the sports they played and the clubs in which they participated, but how many of them had the fun and excitement of seeing a group of strangely dressed senior boys vying for the title Mr. Carson High?

Soroptimist International of Carson City is currently seeking nominations for the Soroptimist Ruby Award: For Women Helping Women, formerly the Making a Difference for Women Award. This program honors women who use their personal or professional influence to improve the lives of other women.
