Eagle Lake After Snowstorm
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Mon, 12/15/2014 - 4:00pmHopefully Eagle Lake, California, is looking like this wintry foggy scene today. Carson City received some morning snow, and hopefully it snowed much more in the High Sierra.
This beautiful large lake is now almost dry, and we need another good winter of snow for the lake to fill up with water again. This photo was taken at Eagle Lake a few years ago, right after a snowstorm. Eagle Lake is about 2 hours and 45 minutes from Carson City. It's an easy trip, from Carson City north up 395 to Susanville, then west on Hwy 36, climbing to the lake.
Mills Park picnic table at a winter day sunrise
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Tue, 11/25/2014 - 2:02pmPretty soon we all will face this. Beauty and cold. Our dawn mornings will again be snow filled and quiet, all over Carson City, and in Mills Park. This photograph was taken right after a overnight snow storm at sunrise in Mills Park a few years ago.
Back in the day, Mills Park once served as our municipal golf course. Now it's home to a host of activities. The great rock band Three Dog Night played in the Marv Teixeira Pavilion in 1994 when the his pavilion opened. It was a great show. A great free show!
Outdoors with Don Q: Ask for snow, wish for snow and pray for snow
Submitted by editor on Thu, 11/13/2014 - 9:46amNo matter how you do it, either by asking, wishing or praying, we need snow. Lots of snow. Feet of deep snow this winter. Elaine and I took a ride last Sunday to take some photos in Alpine County, and we also took our fishing equipment if we decided to fish somewhere.
We were undecided as to where to fish, but thought that we would check out some of the waters along State Route 88 and at other spots. As it turned out, we did not fish and for a darn good reason.

Behind the scenes of a legislature reporter (this one, anyway)
Submitted by Nevada Media Alliance on Mon, 04/01/2013 - 2:04pmby MOLLY MOSER
I’ve successfully reported the very first half of the legislature and have been through quite a lot. The majority of the experiences are good and quite silly and I would like to share them with you. Not a lot of people get to witness what’s behind the curtains of a Nevada Media Alliance reporter. Here, I share my experiences, in no particular order including: my efforts, encounters, and outcomes all while reporting for the Nevada Legislature.
Outdoors with Don Q: A special way to celebrate a special day
Submitted by admin on Thu, 04/05/2012 - 7:24amElaine and I just returned home from a special way to celebrate a special occasion. March 30 was our 10th wedding anniversary and we had wanted to do something out of the ordinary for that event.
When we were married 10 years ago, we took a 19 day honeymoon in Southeast Asia, which included Hong Kong, China; Singapore, Malaysia; Bangkok, Thailand; and the last eight days at Bali, Indonesia.
Most interesting, we took my new mother-in-law, Mary Bottoms, with us!
I bet that very few of you took your mother-in-law on your honeymoon!
Leap Day turns to Wind Day
Submitted by admin on Wed, 02/29/2012 - 11:42amIt only comes once every four years, Leap Day. And today we get high winds and snow. Joe Childs from CarsonWeather.com said he recorded an 83 mph gust at 9:45 this morning.
With the coming snowstorm in this season of drought, I'm sure there are some of you out there (like me) who were looking forward to hitting the slopes today. By chance, there are $29 Leap Day specials at Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows and Diamond Peak. However, the wind has closed the upper mountain areas. The Leap Day curse.
