Happy Tuesday, Carson City. The valley is abuzz in blooming flowers and happenings. The Carson City Classic Cinema Club showcases a different film each month: catch Bette Davis in ‘Of Human Bondage’ tonight at the BAC’s Performance Hall. Hold on to your hat, the weekend is here. If it’s a cowboy hat, head over to Genoa for their annual Cowboy Festival. Plenty of free things to see, hear, and experience await. The annual Spring Earth Spirit Faire lets you celebrate Mother Earth with workshops, holistic practitioners, great vendors, and a raffle. It benefits the Heart to Heart School and Advocates to End Domestic Violence so it’s always worth checking out. You’ll have to keep reading for all of your choices, the spring thaw brings out the best this valley has to offer.

The Carson Visitor’s Center has put together a great art walk pamphlet that helps you explore our downtown culture. The Legislature is home to a few rotating galleries; you’ll find lots of local art at the Brewery Arts Center; and Capital City Arts Initiative sponsors shows at the Courthouse, Community Center and in the Community Development building by City Hall. Whether you prefer indoors or outdoors activities, today has something to offer.

It’s not the sunny spring weekend many of us were hoping for, but it’s here nonetheless. Start the day at Applebee’s for a Flapjack Fundraiser to benefit the Eagle Valley Middle School Robotics Team. TOCCATA kicks off its 12th season of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion; enjoy free admittance to today’s dress rehearsal at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church. You’ll want to read today’s list, fun stuff all over and something for everyone. Psst… Daytonites… Your kids are on spring break right now, and Carson has some great ways to keep them entertained. Younger ones will enjoy a trip to the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada; Tuesdays feature a story and craft activity that’s included with admission. A quick trip to the Galaxy Theater website gets you a rewards card good for Tuesday discount tickets. The Deputy Howell Memorial Musical Festival is holding a volunteer organization meeting tonight at Battle Born Harley.

It seems like overnight the crabapples have exploded into bloom. Take advantage of a beautiful day by joining one of the walks organized every Tuesday. An easy walk with Parks and Rec will take you along a portion of the Mexican Ditch Trail today. The Muscle Powered walk in early evening is more strenuous. Fathers will want to get moving if they plan on taking their daughter to the Carson High Father Daughter Dance this Friday. Swing by the High School office between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. for tickets or shoot an email to teacher Angila Golek to make sure they’re waiting at will call.

Spring has sprung, but apparently Mother Nature didn’t get the memo. Join the Carson Victory Rollers at the Carson Mall and take part in an indoor wine walk and rummage sale. Help Hot Spot Yoga and Fitness for Life celebrate their grand opening with free classes, health vendors, a 5K run, and more. Hit the dance floor with the High Sierra Swing Dance Club; their monthly dance party is held in the Grand Ballroom of the Brewery Arts Center. Irish eyes are smiling on us: it’s going to be a gorgeous day. You won’t have to look far for some green beer, whiskey, or corned beef – there will be St. Patrick’s Day parties all over. Live music is on the menu, as well. Choose from Men of Worth at the Brewery Arts Center, an all ages punk show at Sassafras, or Stereo Galaxy in the McFadden Plaza, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The brave ones will be at the St. Baldrick Fundraiser at Red’s Old 395 where you’ll see some heads shaved for a good cause. Where ever you end up, just make sure you have a plan to get home safely.

Three point one four. That silly number gives us the secret of the circle. And it sounds like 'pie.' Let's celebrate 'pi day' with some jazz and poetry dedicated to math and baked goods with the Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee tonight. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for clear skies, but there are rumors of snow flurries. Luckily there are indoor and outdoor activities, no matter what blows our way. At the top of the list for today is Winter, Wine, Spirits, and All That Jazz at the Brewery Arts Center. Their annual fundraiser is not to be missed.

And here comes more rain. Take a stand against the wet weather and go enjoy Carson City. Karaoke can be found at SlotWorld Casino on Highway 50 East. Live music is always on the menu at Living the Good Life. Kick up your heels and learn some new moves at Carson Lanes – Country Dance lessons are every Tuesday and Wednesday. If everything goes as planned, the sun will finally make an appearance. If you’d rather avoid the mud, check out the Champagne and Jewelry Show inside the bigger better Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery. Area you ready for some football? North, south, east, west, or downtown: there’s a good time to be found: drink specials and football squares everywhere. It’s not exactly warm outside, but compared to some of the bitter cold we’ve had this month, it’s not that bad. Take advantage of the dry weather by joining in on the Parks and Recreation Easy Walk in John Mankins Park in Silver Oak. It’s a Jazz Extravaganza at the Community Center tonight. Mile High Jazz Band has teamed up with the Carson High and Carson Middle School jazz bands for their annual concert. The monthly fundraiser at Firehouse Subs makes raising money for Relay for Life as easy as ordering dinner.

The Dayton Chili Cookers are again partnering with Healthy Communities Coalition’s Dayton Food Pantry for a big chili cookoff, Superbowl party, silent auction,and raffle to benefit the Pantry.

The event begins at noon on Sunday, February 5th at the Dayton Valley Golf Course and Grill. Judging begins at 1 p.m.

The snow has finally stopped falling and now it’s time to go play in it. What’s on your weekend fun list: snowmen and skiing or a toasty fire with a good book? Resolutions are made, parties are planned, and the kids are smack dab in the middle of their winter break. The chilly weather makes it a perfect time to bake cookies, catch up on the Carson City Library’s Winter Read-a-thon, or hit the shops with those holiday gift cards.

Rumor has it, there’s a storm on the way. Bundle up and do a snow dance if you want a white Christmas. It’s the first day of winter break hours at the Arlington Square Ice Rink; it’s a perfect place for the kids to burn off some holiday energy. Genoa Candy and Coffee invites everyone to enjoy story time tonight.

Oh baby, it’s cold outside. Jack Frost seems to be working overtime this weekend, bringing temperatures that will barely rise above freezing. I suggest some hot cocoa. Join Santa at Adele’s for pictures, cookies, and something warm to drink, just remember to bring an unwrapped toy to donate.

Beam me up, Scotty. Better yet, beam me over to the Carson Library for movie night with Star Trek Beyond. This Wednesday has some fun times to be had. The turkeys have been cooked, the dishes done, and the largest shopping weekend of the year is off and running. Show some love locally during Shop Small Business Saturday. Great little shops, restaurants, and services offer something unique for those on your gift list. Gift Certificates are never a bad way to go either: who wouldn’t want a massage, a night on the town, or maybe some music lessons? Santa has returned to town and can be found at the Carson Mall or at Billow’s Embroidery. Keep reading and you’ll find some great ways to spend this holiday weekend.

We’ve just about made it. Time to grab the last of the ingredients from the grocery store and get ready for the big day tomorrow. Wax up the skis and snowboards while you’re at it, the Tahoe resorts are opening for business. Start the day making something beautiful. The Muscle Powered Trash Mob descends upon our new downtown for some clean-up and coffee. Kids will enjoy the Tales and Wags program at the Library where they get to read to therapy dogs and acquire a new book in the process. It’s a Carson/Douglas Army/Navy rivalry as the JROTC programs hit the field at Carson High for a game of flag football. Keep reading and you’re sure to find something that sounds fun.

Feeling nostalgic? The 20th Anniversary of Space Jam is playing at the Galaxy Theater in case you need a fix of the 90s. Capital City Arts Initiative proudly presents some new art in the Sierra Room of the Community Center. You’ll be able to check out ‘Glyphs and Houses’, a solo exhibition by Amelia Currier during public meetings and on Friday afternoons. The Adams Hub is a great resource for entrepreneurs and small business owners: today’s Entrepreneur Assembly is all about getting you started and on your way.

I’m not trying to rush you, but the holidays season approaches. As such, the holiday craft fairs, bazaars, and bake sales have arrived. You may as well start looking at that gift list to see who would enjoy something one-of-a-kind and locally crafted. If not for gift giving, these fairs are an excellent way to find fun ways to decorate your home. Other than that, the weekend is kind of quiet, but you'll want take a look at the list and see what catches your fancy.

A heartfelt ‘thank you’ to everyone who has served or is serving in our Armed Forces. Further thank yous go to their loved ones for the sacrifices they make. This Veterans’ Day several local and national businesses have some special offers for you: free food, drinks, and even pet adoptions. You’ll find them all listed here. There is always something to look forward to after any Election: no more Election commercials. Grab your cowboy boots and head to Carson Lanes for some line dancing with DJ Cowboy Bobby. The Shipley’s head up the jazz jam at Living the Good Life and you never know who will sit in with them. Trivia is on the menu at Westside Pour House: the weekly Geeks Who Drink pub quiz is tonight. The Senators versus Tigers rivalry continues as the faculty of the two high schools compete in a friendly game of basketball.
