Is the persistent series of cold weather systems normal or not? We spoke with a forecaster from the National Weather Service about it and he noted that everyone has an opinion. Some folks swear this happens every Spring, storm after relentless storm through the entire month of May. Some swear the month of May in western Nevada is usually sunny, in the upper 70s to low 80s and comfortable. Whichever you believe, go with it and enjoy. Here's what's ahead Tuesday:

Valley side of Kingsbury Grade to close Wednesday morning as part of shooting investigation

Douglas County Sheriff's Office: 2 treated following Saturday night shooting in Indian Hills
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 05/05/2019 - 11:11amTwo male subjects were involved in a shooting in North Douglas County late Saturday night in the Indian Hills area south of Carson City, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. Both are receiving medical care at this time.
No law enforcement officers were involved in the shooting. No arrests have been made at this time. There are no outstanding suspects nor is there any threats to our community. This is still an open investigation, according to DCSO Undersheriff Ron Elges.
Shooting in Indian Hills reported Saturday night; Careflight ordered for victim
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Sat, 05/04/2019 - 11:55pmUPDATE: 11:24AM: Two male subjects were involved in a shooting in North Douglas County late Saturday. Both are receiving medical care at this time, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
No law enforcement officers were involved in the shooting. No arrests have been made at this time. There are no outstanding suspects nor is there any threats to our community, said Douglas County Undersheriff Ron Elges. This is still an open investigation.

UPDATE: As of 12:10 a.m., Sunday, one victim was transported to Renown for gunshot wounds, according to Douglas County dispatch.

At around 11:40 p.m. a shooting occurred in Indian Hills which resulted in one male victim reportedly being hit in the wrist and bicep, and another victim was shot in the leg, according to Douglas dispatch.
One of the victims was driven to Carson Tahoe Hospital in a private vehicle, which was hit with gunfire, according to a Carson City sheriff's officer. The male victim was treated for gunshot wounds.
Careflight was called for the second victim, according to Douglas County dispatch.

The Nevada Highway Patrol, along with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, will be closing State Route 207 (Kingsbury Grade) between Tramway Drive and Foothill Road on Friday, May 10, 2019, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM for follow-up investigation.

Area Hindus strongly condemn California synagogue shooting

Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada on Saturday, said: "We are deeply saddened by this horrific tragedy. Our hearts go out to the victims and their loved ones and the entire Jewish community. Targeting of innocent people at the sacred worship place is abhorrent.

Schools in Dayton go on voluntary lockdown after report of man in park near school with a rifle

Abel Ortiz, the man who was believed to be carrying a rifle, was instead carrying a pellet gun and had been shooting squirrels at a park near the elementary school. Lt. Ortiz said the man knew that he had made a mistake and was embarrassed for creating the situation. The lieutenant added that the schools did what they were supposed to and there was no threat.

UPDATE 12:35PM: Here's the latest from the Lyon County School District via Facebook. "The precautionary Lock-In at all three Dayton area schools were lifted as of 12:13 p.m. As a result of the prompt actions of law enforcement, school operations have proceeded as normal with all students and staff safe and secure."

Schools in the Dayton area went on voluntary lockdown late Wednesday morning after a report of someone driving around the Dayton High School campus in a pickup with a rifle in the truck, Lyon County Manager Jeff Page said. The voluntary lockdown was a precaution, said Page who contacted Lyon County sheriff's office officials.

Fishing Report: Indian Creek Reservoir and Lake Tahoe currently best bet

One thing we can all plan on is, all the back country lakes and roads will not be open until June or July. The one thing we can count on is the Carson River and a few of the lakes in the Inyo and Mono County area.
Opening day will be on April 27th this year, and with our rain and snow totals, there will be plenty of water everywhere.
Man sentenced to 34 years in prison in Carson City's first convicted hate crime
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Thu, 03/28/2019 - 11:40amTravis Mickelson, a Dayton resident, was sentenced to 11 to 34 years in prison Thursday in Carson City District Court in what was tried and prosecuted as Carson City's first hate crime.
In November of 2018, Mickelson was convicted by a jury in Judge James Russell's court of attempted murder with hate crime enhancements, as well as battery and assault with a deadly weapon.
Lyon County Commission agrees to resolution opposing Nevada gun background check law

Reno police officer released from the hospital

The officer was released from the hospital on Thursday, RPD spokesman Travis Warren said. No other information was available.

A Reno Police officer suffered possible life-threatening injuries Wednesday morning after being involved in an officer
involved shooting in south Reno.
The officer and suspect were taken to the hospital where Reno police have said the officer may have life-threatening injuries.

Nevada Senate Bill 13 aims to allow counties to form nonprofits to collect emergency funds

If the bill is adopted, changes to Chapter 244 of the Nevada Revised Statues would be amended to include several new sections regarding a county’s ability to form a nonprofit corporation.
