Free Hearing Screenings Offered Through Carson Valley Medical Center In Recognition Of World Hearing Day

World Hearing Day is March 3 every year, held to help raise awareness on how to prevent deafness and hearing loss and promote ear and hearing care across the world.

In recognition of the day, Carson Valley Medical Center is offering free hearing evaluations Friday, March 1 and Friday, March 8 through its Occupational Health Clinic in Minden at 897 Ironwood Drive.

Approximately 20 percent of Americans, or 48 million, report some degree of hearing loss. At age 65, the numbers grow to 33 percent. Additionally, nearly 15 percent of school-age children have some degree of hearing loss.

Rural Nevada foster care subject of Carson City Soroptimist Program Luncheon Feb. 27

Carson City Soroptimist will feature Lori Nichols as speaker during its Program Meeting on Wednesday, February 27, 12-1 p.m. at Glen Eagles Restaurant. This meeting is open to the public, with prior reservations required. There is no charge to attend, however, a plated lunch with choice of entrees, selected in advance, is available for $16.

Carson City area romance film competition winners announced at BAC dinner and movie event

Thursday night at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City featured a Valentine's showcase of locally produced films featured and judged as part of the "Tell Me You Love Me" Short Romance Film competition.

Carson Creepy Short Horror Film awards presented Tuesday at Brewery Arts Center

Wired Wednesday Digital Arts Association held their annual Carson Creepy Short Horror Film competition screenings and awards on Tuesday, October 30th at the Brewery Arts Center.

Local filmmakers were challenged earlier this month to make short horror films in exactly one week.

Carson Valley Medical Center Great Outdoors Health Fair Oct. 20

Carson Valley Medical Center has moved its annual community health fair to the middle of autumn, with this year’s event scheduled to take place Oct. 20 from 9 a.m. to noon on its main campus, 1107 Highway 395 N in Gardnerville.

Free flu vaccinations will be offered during this year’s fair, along with a variety of free health screenings including glucose testing, peripheral artery disease screenings (Ankle-Brachial Index), blood pressure checks, Body Mass Index readings and more.

Lights, camera, action! The Second annual Jukebox Film Festival begins today at the Carson City Community Center. Two full days of features, documentaries, and short films with music as the uniting theme will be shown at the Carson City Community Center: 30 unique titles representing 29 different filmmakers from countries around the world. Blood Drum Spirit, a jazz band with an African influence, is the focus of one of those films and will be performing for free at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint this evening.
