Kids will enjoy the Tales and Wags program at the Library where they get to read to therapy dogs and acquire a new book in the process. It’s a Carson/Douglas Army/Navy rivalry as the JROTC programs hit the field at Carson High for a game of flag football. Keep reading and you’re sure to find something that sounds fun.

Since 1999 this group has been working to meet the needs of those with limited financial resources who are home bound or in care centers with little or no family nearby. Each year 150 - 200 visits are averaged in the Carson City area!

Carson City Holiday with a Hero 2016: Buy-in sought for homeless children Christmas campaign

Santa Claus is Coming to Town!

This is DeBug’s fourth year putting on an event to help the sheriff’s office with its Holiday with a Hero event, which pairs up Carson City sheriff's deputies, firefighters and public officials with dozens of pre-selected local students, many of whom don't have permanent homes and live in poverty.

Prescribed fire operations continue on Lake Tahoe’s East, South shores
Submitted by Brett Fisher on Sat, 04/30/2016 - 9:31amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Weather permitting, the U.S. Forest Service, the Nevada Division of State Lands and the Nevada Division of Forestry may conduct prescribed fire operations next week beginning Monday, May 2, 2016.
On the East Shore, operations may take place in the Rocky Point area near Tunnel Creek Road, Montreal Canyon near Spooner Summit and south of Glenbrook near Camp Galilee.
Prescribed fire operations continue around Spooner, Lake Tahoe this week

On the East Shore, operations may take place near Spooner Summit, Camp Galilee and on Kingsbury Grade near Edgewood Drive.
Prescribed fire operations begin around Lake Tahoe area
Submitted by editor on Mon, 04/04/2016 - 1:56pmThe Nevada Division of Forestry, the U.S. Forest Service and California State Parks have continued prescribed fire operations with controlled burning. Residual smoke from the burning has been visible in the valleys. Firefighters from Tahoe Douglas and East Fork Fire Protection District were called Monday afternoon to investigate smoke in the Spooner area and above Jacks Valley and determined it was from the controlled fire operations.

For the past month V&T conducted surveys for customer feedback about their experience with the railroad. Each survey participant was entered in a giveaway to win four coach tickets to the highly anticipated opening weekend of holiday train, Nov. 17-20.

Polar Express passengers safe after engine breaks down in Lyon County; train resumes Saturday on regular schedule

UPDATE 11:05PM: All passengers, including Santa Claus and helpers, have been safely removed from the disabled V&T train Friday night and were taken by shuttle buses to the Carson City depot. The train stalled north of Linehan Road in Lyon County. Carson City dispatch received the call at 9:20pm that the train was disabled with more than 240 passengers. There were no injuries and the passengers were in good spirits, said Sgt. Scott McDaniel.
A diesel engine pushed the disabled train and passenger cars back to the Carson City depot.
Toys For Tots celebrates successful 2015 campaign

That faithfulness will stand to benefit around 3,000 children this year in Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties.

"Yes, Virginia: The Musical" has been adapted specifically for children and families by Macy’s, in partnership with the Make-a-Wish Foundation. The show will run two performances, Dec. 19-20, 2015 in the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center.
