Lisa Schuette, who represents Ward 4 on the Carson City Board of Supervisors, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. A Carson City native, Lisa is a retired health teacher and probation officer who is best known as founding chair of the Carson Animal Services Initiative (CASI), which raised the funds needed to build and equip the city's state-of-the-art animal shelter.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Carson City Sheriff Kenny Furlong. He'll be prepared to field questions on any topic on the minds of attendees. Kenny is the 26th sheriff to serve Carson City and Ormsby County since 1861, not counting Carson City Sheriff Chon Wang, played by Jackie Chan in Shanghai Knights.

Monday's Democratic luncheon will feature a town hall by Carson City Sheriff Sheriff Kenneth T. Furlong. As always he is prepared to field questions on any and all topics on the minds of Carsonites, from whether black lives matter to whether Nevadans should defund the police. CASA, or Court Appointed Special Advocates, provides quality court-appointed advocacy for abused and neglected children in child welfare cases, through a network of community volunteers who work with children to ensure their voices are heard during court proceedings.

A hotline for Toys for Tots will soon be available for Carson City, Douglas, Storey and West Lyon County families in need of toys for the holidays.

For many local children, Toys for Tots has made all the difference in their lives when it comes to the holidays. Due to COVID-19 this year, the need will be even greater, but in order to make it happen, volunteers are needed.

For the second year, the Ron Wood Family Resource Center in Carson City has received a generous donation of more than 2,700 pair of Bombas socks to give to those in need around the community.

Ron Wood Family Resource Center has received an emergency grant through Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) NV CARES Community Food Response Project to deliver emergency food once per month for individuals in need.

We will be delivering food in Carson City from September – December 2020.

This week, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office hosted training of school-based officers provided by the National Association of School Resource Officers. The training is viewed as essential certifications for officers working within educational environments and critical to the success of the “triad” concept of policing in school programs.

The Ron Wood Family Resource Center has received a 2020 CARES Act COVID-19 Relief Act funding grant from Carson City. The purpose of this grant is to assist Carson City residents with COVID-19 related needs.

Fifteen Carson City non-profits were awarded nearly $800,000 in COVID-19 relief funding via the CARES act during the Board of Supervisor's meeting held Thursday.

The State of Nevada through the CARES Act has allocated over $10 million in Coronavirus Relief Funds “CRF” to Carson City. Carson City’s Preliminary Plan of Expenditure allocated $1 million to be awarded to non-profit organizations located in Carson City.

In the midst of COVID-19, several local non-profits, churches, homeless shelters and social services are helping those in need. Community food resources in the Carson City, Minden, Silver Springs, Yerington, Gardnerville and Dayton areas have put together plans and options during these unprecedented times.

Partnership Carson City, a local organization that inspires a healthy community by building strong families and successful youth, announces two new team members joining the ranks to support education, collaboration and engagement with residents.

Stimulus Program Information

The coronavirus relief bill passed March 27 by Congress provides payments to individuals who make less than $100,000 a year. The payment total $1,200 for each adult who makes $75,000 or less, plus $500 per child. The payment amounts decrease if you make between $75,000 and $99,000. The income is determined by your latest tax return filed with the IRS. It will use your 2019 taxes if you have filed them already, or your 2018 taxes if you haven't. The Nevada Rural Counties RSVP Program (RSVP) has taken proactive steps and the necessary precautions to respond to the COVID-19 (novel Coronavirus) outbreak and support communities across its 15-county service region including Carson City. The most vulnerable among us rely on RSVP’s volunteer services. Given the increased risks for those we serve such as elders, veterans and adults with a disability, RSVP is limiting interaction between its volunteers and clients by shifting programs to meet the emergent needs of care recipients.

Nutrition Services with the Carson City School District have added two more drive-through pick-up locations for free lunch and breakfast, including the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada and the Ron Wood Family Resource Center.
