Carson City Fair returns for 2018 with some changes

The annual Carson City Fair — a combination of carnival, agriculture, local exhibits and entertainment — is returning to the Nevada state capital July 25-29, 2018 at the Fuji Park Fairgrounds.

It’s not just Friday, it’s the very first day of June and I love June. We are already off to a great start with the first of the Friday at Third concerts tonight in McFadden Plaza. Shane Dwight is back to perform for this free, family friendly event. The NEA sponsored Carson Big Read event comes to a close tonight with a free showing of 2010’s movie, True Grit in the Community Center Theater. Take the kids to the Children’s Museum for a special Night of Magic with Phoenix Phenomenal.

Rumble, rumble, rumble. Street Vibrations brings quite a bit of traffic to the area, so please drive safely amoungst the swarms of bikes. Battle Born Harley is hosting one heck of a party, so head down there for bikes, brews, and lots of live music. For something quieter, the final weekend of 'Nightfall with Edgar Allen Poe' at the Brewery Arts Center is a great alternative. Funny lady and local favorite, Kat Simmons, is this week's featured performer at Carson Comedy inside the Nugget - stick around downtown and enjoy Southbound Train at the Westside Pour House.

Sunday, August 20: Things to do around Carson City and beyond

The concerts in the Capital Amphitheater have always been a local favorite: blanket and a picnic are all you need to make the most of this Sunday afternoon. Flashback to yesteryear at the Virginia City ‘Way it Was Rodeo.’ The Trippin King Snakes take the stage at the Genoa Bar Porch Party. Food and drink will be available, and it’s a great way to wind down the weekend.

A sunny summer weekend has arrived and it brings numerous fun ways to seize the day. You can always head out hiking or spend the day at the pool, but the Carson City Fair is just here until Sunday. Farm animals, great exhibits, live entertainment, a carnival, and a bull-riding rodeo can be found at Fuji Park. Park your car at the Super Walmart on Topsy and you’ll be treated to a free shuttle. Go a little bit country at the Brewery Arts Center tonight; they are bringing back the Southern Drawl Band to the Minnesota Street Stage for this week’s free concert.

Youth Theater Carson City debuts its newest production, Into the Woods, Jr., at the Community Center and is a great option for a special kids’ night out. It is going to be a beautiful Tuesday: toasty, but not too hot, and with a nice afternoon breeze. As the summer goes along, kids get a little antsy. Take your grade schooler up to Silver City for their annual Bike Safety Rodeo and you’ll leave confident that they know the rules of the road. Hit the dance floor tonight. You can learn some beginning swing dance moves at El Charro Avita. Grab your partner and head to Carson Lanes for lessons in country line dancing and a good time with DJ Cowboy Bobby Truesdale.

White Pine County Horse Race Eclipse Weekend

Each year horse racing, a county fair and other traditional events dating back almost 100 years bring together neighbors and visitors alike in the remote town of Ely, Nevada. This year, the festivities planned Aug. 20 and 21 include a solar eclipse train ride on the historic Nevada Northern Railway.

Free Bike Safety Rodeo with Western Safe Routes to Schools July 18th

SILVER CITY, NEVADA — Western Safe Routes to Schools will offer a free bike safety rodeo for ages 5-12 on Tuesday, July 18th, 2017 from 10am to noon at the Silver City basketball court (next to the town park and School House/community center at 385 High Street).

Kids will learn road rules and safety, and participate in fun bike maneuvers and exercises. They'll receive new bike helmets if they do not have one yet.

The event is part of the town's annual free summer program and is held in partnership with Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties.

Forest Service continues effort to eliminate invasive plant populations from Lake Tahoe Basin

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) will continue a project to eradicate, control, and contain known infestations of invasive plants in the Lake Tahoe Basin using chemical treatment. Work will take place at approximately 90 infestations sites (18.25 acres) beginning in mid-July and continuing through September 2017.

More than 5,000 firefighters battling 24 fires across Nevada and California

Hazy conditions around Carson City and the region is due to the smoke from several fires in Nevada and California that continue to burn Sunday with thousands of firefighting personnel battling the blazes.
