Members of the Sierra Nevada Youth Optimist Club will be hosting robotics camps at Western Nevada College in Carson City, July 17-21.

Team Captain, the Carson High School Robotics team, were recently invited to tour the Tesla Gigafactory in Sparks, NV. Joining them on the tour was Carson City Superintendent Mr. Richard Stokes.

This weekend is for all of the moms out there, and the dads that are also moms, and the women who hold a special place of honor in our hearts. Scoop the family up and find something to enjoy together. The annual RSVP Spring Carnival is an easy choice, but a round-trip to Virginia City on the historic V and T Steam Train is pretty memorable. Find something pretty for her garden at the Spring Plant Sale that the Greenhouse Project hosts each year. Don’t let your parade get rained out though, downtown Carson will march right through this wet stuff. The early Spring Farmers Market debuts today behind Due Sorella at Nevada and Musser Streets. Grab the kids and enjoy today’s open house with free admission at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada. Stick around for the monthly Downtown Business Association wine walk and find something for Mothers’ Day at one of our wonderful local shops.

Join us for an indoor yard sale to benefit the Eagle Valley Middle School robotics team, The Jedi Engineers. This team will be headed to Bath, UK in June to compete in an International Championship. One hundred percent of the proceeds will assist the team with travel costs. Join us inside the big gym from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

CARSON CITY — Team Captain, the Carson High School robotics team, has returned from an intense four-day competition at the FIRST World Championship. Held April 19–22 in Houston, Texas, the competition brings together the best robotics teams from around the country and around the world.

The Reno Aces will be hosting a fundraiser to help the Eagle Valley Middle School Lego Robotics Team get to England. The game will take place on Friday, May 12th at 6:00 PM. Tickets are only $15 with proceeds going to help the Lego Robotics Team. Each ticket is located in the Right Infield Section and comes with a complimentary Reno Aces Ball Cap.

Eagle Valley Middle School’s FIRST LEGO League team, The Jedi Engineers, have returned from the FIRST World Festival Championships! FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a not-for-profit organization founded in 1989 by inventor Dean Kamen, inspires young people’s interest and participation in science and technology.

Easter weekend is almost upon us and there are a multitude of egg hunts and festivities to choose from. Whether you live in Carson City, Dayton, or Douglas County or fancy the Easter bonnet and pet parade in Virginia City, there’s something in your neighborhood. Carson High School's Robotics Team is hosting a Robotics Night at Edith W. Fritsch Elementary School on Wednesday 6:30–8:00 p.m. The team is preparing to attend the World Championship in Houston, TX on April 19-22 where they will compete against 127 other FIRST Tech Challenge teams from 39 countries.

The support received from the community of Carson City is enough to make people from all over the country want to relocate. Former students know there are no special funds available for high school clubs to organize a prom or enjoy interscholastic competition.

It’s not the sunny spring weekend many of us were hoping for, but it’s here nonetheless. Start the day at Applebee’s for a Flapjack Fundraiser to benefit the Eagle Valley Middle School Robotics Team. TOCCATA kicks off its 12th season of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion; enjoy free admittance to today’s dress rehearsal at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church. Team Captain, the Carson High School robotics team representing Carson City, has been invited to the prestigious FIRST World Championship, which includes 39 countries, in Houston, Texas to be held next month.

March Madness has hit Eagle Valley Middle School in Carson City. No, not basketball, but its Robotics team. Eagle Valley’s Jedi Engineers First LEGO League Team won the Northern Nevada LEGO League Championship and is now headed to the World Championship finals in Houston in April. They have also been invited to compete in Bath, England this summer.

Irish eyes are smiling on us: it’s going to be a gorgeous day. You won’t have to look far for some green beer, whiskey, or corned beef – there will be St. Patrick’s Day parties all over. Live music is on the menu, as well. Choose from Men of Worth at the Brewery Arts Center, an all ages punk show at Sassafras, or Stereo Galaxy in the McFadden Plaza, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The brave ones will be at the St. Baldrick Fundraiser at Red’s Old 395 where you’ll see some heads shaved for a good cause. Where ever you end up, just make sure you have a plan to get home safely.

What’s this? A weekend with no snow in sight? That’s the best news I’ve heard in months. Welcome to the wrestlers and swimmers who are in town for their respective tournaments: you’ll find other fun things on this list to occupy your downtime. It’s a St. Patty’s celebration in Virginia City this weekend with the parade, Rocky Mountain Oyster Fest, and Ball Buster Saloon Crawl. Bragging rights are on the line at the Sixth Annual Thirsty Boy Homebrew Competition sponsored by Just Brew It. You’ll get a sneak peek at the soon-to-open Shoe Tree Brewery if you attend the award ceremony.

Building a champion is no small task, especially when working with LEGOs.

But that's exactly what Eagle Valley Middle School's LEGO Robotics Team has done this year.


Want to be a lawyer for a day? At CHS, with Mock Trial, it is possible. Mock Trial is Law and Order set in a simulated trial environment in a real courthouse with a real judge. The Carson High School Mock Trial team will meet professional attorneys and students around the state to compete Feb. 17 in Reno.

It is time for a great workout at Carson High School to both support its students and potentially win a race, not to mention avoid a heart attack.

The seventh annual Safe and Sober 2017 5K Run/Walk at the CHS track facility, presented by Carson High Safe Grad Booster, is set for Feb. 11.

Saturday couldn’t have been a better day to be a kid. From Legos to locomotives, from cookies to crafts, and ice skates to canines, area children had plenty of fun activities to choose from in Carson City.

The final event of the Senior Project happens April 18 and Carson High School reserves the entire school day to these momentous, rigorous, relevant, and result driven speeches. The excitement at CHS is intense as these seniors dress for the occasion, dawning everything from professional business attire to scrubs depending on the nature of their projects. Though college and career are just around the corner, a feeling of anticipation, excitement, and soon-to-be graduation flows through the air at CHS.

Anthony Aguilar and Jack Wilson, both 13-year-old eighth-graders at Eagle Valley Middle School gave a demonstration on how to work a robotic arm at the annual Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math Night.

“You can move it up or down or also turn the rotation of the claw,” explained Anthony. He showed how to pick up different items with it.

Just remind yourself that these April showers bring May flowers, and the balmy spring weather is returning in just a few days. This weekend has indoor and outdoor activities aplenty, so you can choose the degree of wind and rain you want to deal with.

What gorgeous weather we have this weekend! Head over to Eagle Valley Middle School for a rummage sale benefiting their LEGO Robotics Team; you may find something fun for your patio. Northern Nevada high school robotics teams gathered at Western Nevada College in Carson City on Saturday, Sept. 7 for a kick-off event the 2013-2014 FIRST Tech Challenge.

The FIRST NV organization, organized the Second Annual Northern Nevada FIRST TECH Challenge was held Saturday at Carson High School in Carson City. High school teams from Nevada, California, Oregon, and Utah competed in a full day robotics competition for two seeds to the World Festival Robotics Competition to be held in April.
