While reading is usually its own reward, patrons who take part in the Carson City Library's Winter Reading Challenge will also be earning raffle tickets as they lose themselves in a good book or peruse the daily paper.

Headed to south shore Lake Tahoe for New Year's Eve? Here's what you need to know

Law enforcement is preparing for the annual New Year's Eve party held at Stateline, an outdoor gathering that at one time saw 50,000 people in the streets.

Celebrate New Years with CASI bingo. That's right CASI will be hosting bingo at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverley Drive on New Years day! Bring your friends and family for a fun and exciting afternoon of bingo. In addition to the prize money given to the winners of the games there will be raffle prizes and a 50/50 drawing too. Doors will open at 11:30 AM and the first game will start at 12:30. Buy-in is $10 and extra packets are $5. All other games are $1. The snack bar will be open offering hot dogs, chips and candy. Sometimes the wonderful CASI volunteers will bring soup.

Nevada Humane Society begins 2016 with 'Happy Neuter Year' campaign

Agencies prepare for Lake Tahoe New Year's Eve celebration at Stateline

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is preparing for the upcoming New Year’s Eve celebration at Lake Tahoe starting on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015.

Due to the high volume of celebrants within the Stateline casino core area during this event, U.S. Highway 50 may be closed to vehicle traffic in the evening if necessary for public safety.

Annual New York New Year’s Eve ball to benefit Carson City Library

Carson City revelers can ring in the New Year in the grand style of the Big Apple during the annual New York New Year’s Eve Black and White Ball 6-10 p.m. Dec. 31.

Partygoers will celebrate with the East Coast as the ball drops on Times Square at 9 p.m. Pacific Standard Time as part of the celebration, which benefits Carson City Library.

Celebrate the New Year with Hikes at Dayton, Washoe Lake and Fort Churchill State Parks

Celebrate New Year’s Day 2016 with Nevada State Parks. Guided hikes led by park rangers and local volunteers will be offered at State Parks throughout Nevada as part of the nationwide First Day Hikes Program. Nevada State Parks is waiving entrance fees for all first day hikers.

The Carson Nugget threw down the ultimate disco-era themed New Year's Eve party Wednesday night to ring in the new year. Illuminated disco balls, streamers, balloons, dancing and music all played out as party-goers celebrated the arrival of 2015.

Nevada Humane Society: Make a New Year's resolution to spay and neuter pets in January

Nevada Humane Society wants you to ring in the New Year by making a resolution to neuter your male dog or cat during their Happy Neuter Year campaign.

Sponsored by PetSmart Charities, the largest funder of animal welfare efforts in North America, the Happy Neuter Year campaign will provide a limited number of $20 neuter surgeries for male dogs and cats during the month of January.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is making preparations for the upcoming New Year’s Eve celebration at Lake Tahoe starting on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014.

Due to the ordinarily high volume of celebrants within the Stateline casino core area during the event, U.S. Highway 50 may be closed to vehicle traffic in the evening if necessary for public safety. If that should occur, vehicle traffic will be diverted around the Stateline casino core area using upper and lower Lake Parkway Drive.
