Bike to Work Week Party at the Firkin and Fox

It’s great to see the bicycle miles and trips rack up from our Corporate Challengers! If you haven’t been keeping track, go check out the daily totals posted on the Muscle Powered blog. We’re going to have a big party at the Firkin and Fox on Friday night the 18th to celebrate everyone’s hard work this week. Dime-a-dance USO-style party

In honor of Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day, High Sierra Swing Dance Club presents a USO-style “dime-a-dance” party to honor veterans and servicepeople May 19 at the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom, 449 W. King St., Carson City. There will be a lesson at 7 p.m., with the social dance at 8-10:30 p.m. Men may purchase tickets for 10 cents a dance (or 12 tickets for $1). Between 8 and 9 p.m., each time you dance with a different woman, give her a ticket, which will be entered into a 9 p.m. drawing for raffle prizes.

Bike Movie Night at Sassafras

If you haven’t been to a movie night at the Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint in downtown Carson City, you’re missing out on a good time! Every Monday night they show a fun film in the plan:b lounge area, and you can order great food and drinks while you enjoy the movie.  Free popcorn, and movie commentary / trivia from Mike the host.  This week the movie will have a bicycle theme, and you are are encouraged to ride your bike to the show!

Carson City SWAT Hosts 1st Annual Fundraiser

On Sunday, June 3rd, 2012 at 8:00 AM, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team will be hosting our first annual fundraiser “Zombie Shoot.” The proceeds of the fundraiser will go to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team to assist in the purchasing of emergency and tactical equipment for the unit.

Snow golf tournament at Alpine Meadows

Alpine Meadows’ annual Snow Golf Tournament will tee off at 9 a.m. at the top of the mountain off the Summit Express chairlift Saturday, April 21. This highly anticipated spring event features the only mountaintop snow golf course around. It’s the best of both worlds: skiing or snowboarding combined with golf. What better way to spend a beautiful spring day than on the slopes for a game of snow golf?

Sheriff's Showdown

Show season is finally upon us. Freaks of Nature would like to request your presence at the 1st Annual Sheriff's Showdown. Held at Harley Davidson of Carson City. Registration is from 9-11am and trophies at 3pm. This event is Open to all makes and models, including bikes! Registration is $15. There will be Live Music, Food provided by Dickie's BBQ, Art by Air Face Painting by Lynzie, Fresh Lemonade, Les Schwab Tires and many more vendors. We even brought out the bounce house for the kids. And don't forget to buy your raffle tickets, as we will have tons of prizes to be won!

Outdoors with Don Q: Annual Invitational Fishing Derby at Topaz Lake

Sunday through Tuesday, April 22-24, are the 2012 dates for the highly-popular John Riordan Invitational Fishing Derby. John is the Assistant General Manager for the Carson Station Hotel and Casino in Carson City, and this will be the 15th version of his annual, fun-filled, fishing event at Topaz Lake.
His derby is traditionally co-headquartered at the Topaz Lake Marina and the Topaz Lake Lodge at Topaz Lake, which lies along the Nevada-California state line about 40 miles south of Carson City.

Beer & Brats Fundraiser

The annual Carson Girls Softball fundraiser for the Sharks Tournament Softball teams will be held on May 18th for 6PM to 9PM at the Fuji Park Exhibition hall. For a $20.00 donation you will get all you can eat bratwurst and all you can drink beer! There will be a silent auction, raffle and door prizes from local business plus it’s a great time. Travis Kenison Raffle Fundraiser

A father of 5, loving husband, and devoted Christian, is in the hospital right now after suffering multiple strokes and will be needing spinal/brain surgery. He was diagnosed with Klippel-Feil syndrome. This is a rare disorder in which the spine has abnormalities in it that are formed in the womb. His skull and first two vertebrates are fused together, and multiple more further down his spine. The abnormality is putting pressure on part of his brain. He currently has no health insurance. In an effort to help I have put together a raffle fundraiser to help towards his medical bills.

New sportsman “Dream Tag” available

The Nevada Department of Wildlife reminds sportsmen that the big game tag application process opened Monday, March 19.
Applications must be received, either by mail or online at internet website www.huntnevada.com, by 5 p.m. on Monday, April 16, to be eligible for the computerized drawing.
Hunters will also have a unique “raffle” opportunity to win premier big game tags this year with the all new Nevada Dream Tags. The tag is similar to other western states’ raffle tags and “hunt of a life time” tags.

Open house for remodeled Richardson Building

Some Nevada Welfare Recipients Have Fun on Taxpayer Dime But Most Spending Appropriate

CARSON CITY – There are a few withdrawals in vacation destinations like New Orleans and Hawaii. There are a few from such tourist locations as Angel Stadium in Anaheim, SeaWorld San Diego and Pier 39 in San Francisco.

There are about 1,600 withdrawals in more than 35 states and the territory of Guam. And there are about 100 withdrawals at liquor stores and quite a few at Nevada casinos or slot parlors.
