Debbie Barham, co-owner of Carson City-based DeBug Computer, Inc., has been named Northern Nevada coordinator for Ryan’s Case for Smiles, a non-profit with thousands of volunteers across the globe providing comfort to children with cancer.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a number of activities, gatherings, virtual or not, happening around the Carson City region. Safety guidelines for the state of Nevada have been enforced, so please make sure to bring a mask and practice social distancing.

A Seattle area high school student will pass through Carson City today, Wednesday, and will be at the state capitol building to display a quilt he designed to raise awareness of COVID-19.

St. Peter's Episcopal Church in downtown Carson City at the corner of Telegraph and Division streets will host its annual Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Items available include hand-crafted notecards, hand-made apparel, accessories, and items for the home. Raggedy Ann dolls and Christmas bears will provide unique gifts.

Many types of people make up the fabric of Carson City and in my quest to learn why people are CarsonProud, I enjoy going to the many wonderful events that seem to be held every weekend. I recently attended the the 50th Anniversary of the Nevada Historical Society where time stood still for a moment or two as artists came together at the historical Foreman-Roberts House to showcase talents that have withstood the test of time.

Happy Saturday Carson City! It’s going to be a hot, sunny summer day in the capital city with a high of 94. We’ve got a ton of great events to attend, so make sure to bring some sunscreen!

Saturday, August 3

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days, including Hot August Nights Kickoff Rallies in Virginia City, history walks at Mormon Station Park, pickleball at the Carson City MAC, concerts at the Brewery Arts Center and TJ’s Corral, a Muscle Powered Sunday morning bike ride and more!

The annual fundraiser for the Friends of the Nevada State Museum is set for Saturday, August 3. Member Judi Miller has created another fabulous quilt to be raffled off at the Night with Notorious Nevadans – The Mint Edition fundraising event.

The Old West Trio returns to the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park this coming week in an evening concert, while two local musicians are featured at the park’s upcoming Neighbor Fair, an event highlighting Carson Valley’s non-profit organizations.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held Thursday, June 6, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

To be discussed are funding, contract purchases, grants, special event costs, and more.

CARSON CITY — The Desert Gardeners announced the winner of a beautiful garden-themed quilt raffled during a fundraiser to benefit The Greenhouse Project during its May meeting on Thursday, May 16.

The list of local students who received scholarships were announced at the Salute to Scholars Program. Listed below are the students; congratulations!

The Friends of the Nevada State Museum thanks everyone who attended, donated to, and participated in the sold out and overwhelmingly successful performance of their original production of A Night with Notorious Nevadans.

Ready for a good time? The Carson City Fair runs all day and culminates with a special concert in the arena starring Journey Unlimited. Car lovers are in for a treat: you can head down to the Carson Mall for their monthly cruise night, or roll into the Max Casino to get registered for the 33rd annual Run Whatcha Brung Car Show. The Trippin King Snakes take the stage in McFadden Plaza for a free all-ages show. Break a leg to the kids of Youth Theater Carson City; they open their production of ‘Bye, Bye, Birdie’ at the Community Center this evening.

This first weekend of June packs quite a punch: activities and events abound. Head downtown for the first Third and Curry Farmers Market of the season, then wander a few blocks north for Due Sorella’s Spring Vintage Market. You may as well just keep the car parked. With the monthly Wine Walk, Pour for Paws in McFadden Plaza, and Crystal’s Crusade Street Party Fundraiser on W. Telegraph, downtown is the place to be. There are so many options this weekend, so take a gander and enjoy your weekend.

I hope that everyone had a great weekend. Now it’s time to start Bike to Work Week. Set out on your commute a little earlier and do something healthy. Take some time to check out the multiple art exhibits that we have around town; Writing from Mars in the Carson City Courthouse will be gone by the end of the month. If you’d like to be more involved in our community theater activities, attend the monthly board meeting of the Proscenium Players. They always welcome an extra pair of helping hands.

MONDAY, May 14: Things to do in Carson City

Okay. This is one of the hardest weekend lists I’ve ever had to do. This dump of snow has cancelled some events, but others are in full force. Best I can tell, St. Patrick’s Day parties are not deterred by a little snowfall. There will be no parade in Virginia City, but the Rocky Mountain Oyster Fest is on. Head to downtown Carson for more green beer, Irish music, and corned beef and cabbage than you’ll know what to do with.

CARSON CITY, Nevada – A reception and artist’s talk with mixed-media artist Andreana Donahue will be held Thursday, Jan. 11 at the Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery in Carson City.

There are some fairly excited kids throughout the valley. This last Friday before Christmas marks the beginning of winter break. The Carson City Library invites everyone in the community to participate in the annual Winter Read-a-thon with a goal of 90,000 minutes read (or listened to) over the next two weeks. Sign up on-line or at their kick-off event this afternoon. Comedian John Mencarelli headlines Carson Comedy inside the Carson Nugget, and you’ll find the Rebekah Chase Band on stage in their Loft. In celebrating the holiday season, the 28-member Capital Quilters group generously donated handmade quilts that will be given to all babies born at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center during the month of December.

CARSON CITY — Everywhere she has lived or studied, Las Vegas artist Andreana Donahue has incorporated physical pieces of the local environment into her work.

During a residency in Alaska, she used local wildflowers and berries she gathered in the summer months to create a dye for a quilt. When she had a residency in Corsicana, Texas, she used denim and mechanics’ rags to create a remembrance quilt she titled “The Lone Star.”

A free Western Heritage Celebration returns to the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, July 22, beginning at 11:00 am.

The event’s second year will include a heritage quilting presentation, a Victorian dressing presentation, songs about local history and cowboy poetry, as well as gold panning and other children’s activities.

As one of the Northern Nevada veterans who traveled to Washington, D.C., earlier this month as part of Honor Flight Nevada, Carson City native Don Quilici has been left with memories and faces that he will cherish forever.
