Stewart Indian School grand opening postponed, Carson City Father’s Day Powwow cancelled

There's Flag Day ceremonies at the Nevada Veterans Memorial and at the Elks Lodge. The Stewart Father’s Day Powwow happens Friday to Sunday and features hundreds of American Indian dancers, drummers artists and cultural enthusiasts. Lace up the tennis shoes for the Eastside Historical tour of the capital city hosted by Muscle Powered. Journey of Hope returns to Western Nevada College at 5 p.m. to settle into the evening. Open Mic Night at A to Zen will cap-off an eventful Friday heading into the weekend.

The former Stewart Indian School in Carson City will come alive with over 200 dancers, over 40 arts and crafts vendors and Indian Tacos. Admission is free. Click on flier for more information.
The Stewart Father's Day Entry is at 7 p.m. on Friday, Saturday at 1 p.m., and Sunday at noon. This is an alcohol and drug-free event.
Yerington High School Hosts Cultural Dance Assembly in Honor of Native American Heritage Month
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Tue, 11/20/2018 - 2:34pmOn November 20 at Yerington High School, Native Youth Community Project (NYCP) staff - Gerald Hunter and Mary Williams - arranged for five different cultural groups to present and dance for Yerington High and Intermediate Schools. Some of the dances included the Opening Flag Song, Victory Song, Great Basin Dancers, Powwow dancers, Aztec Dancers and California Maidu/Miwok Dancers. The assembly was in honor of Native American Heritage Month. There were explanations of the dances as well as a question and answer period. Students and staff were able to participate in a couple of the dances.

Now, when I say bicycle invasion, I’m not exaggerating. The Carson City Off-Road hosted by Epic Rides brings mountain bike enthusiasts from all over to compete in our hills. You’ll find downtown road-closures to make way for the race routes, a bike expo, beer garden, and a music festival on Saturday. A parade, competitions of strength and facial hair, hot air balloons, bloody marys, a carnival, pow wow, and free chili are just a few of the festivities awaiting the capital city on Saturday.

The Stewart Father's Day Powwow Committee in partnership with the Nevada Indian Commission is hosting the 2016 Stewart Father's Day Powwow at the former Stewart Indian School in Carson City, which got underway Friday and continues through Saturday and Sunday.
