CARSON CITY — Western Nevada College is delighted to announce that J. Kyle Dalpe, Ph.D., will join the college as Vice President of Instruction and Institutional Effectiveness on July 1, 2019.

There's quite a lineup of activities, especially if you're an artist, a lover of art forms or both. Expect partly sunny skies and warm temperatures with a high near 70. Annette Magnus, Executive Director of Battle Born Progress, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. A Political Science graduate of UNLV, Magnus has become a familiar face throughout the state as an outspoken advocate for progressive causes.

She has also served as Co-Chair of the Nevada Women's Lobby, a board member of Emerge Nevada, and Public Affairs Manager at Planned Parenthood of Southern Nevada.

This event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 8th, in the banquet room of Carson City's Round Table, on Retail Drive just off College Parkway.

CHS celebrated its Second Annual Carson Unplugged event this past week where staff and students were encouraged to unplug from technology and be present in the moment, enjoying more face-to-face interactions and less screen time.

Though it would take some seriously intense research to prove the following, it is believed by many the Carson City community is the most supportive group of people in the country. Hyperbole, maybe, but Carson High School senior Nik Hylan, in fulfilling his graduation requirement, is asking the community to give a gift of blood and receive a free gift this holiday season.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Nevada Second District Congressman Mark Amodei announced Wednesday the hiring of Molly Lowe as his new Legislative Director.

Three staff members from the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development have been promoted, Executive Director Paul Anderson announced Wednesday. The staffers are Matthew Moore, Melanie Sheldon and Mariah Heriman.

The next Sierra Nevada Forum, scheduled for Wednesday, March 13 at 6 p.m. inside the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall at 511 West King Street, will feature a discussion about the Electoral College and the national popular vote.

CARSON CITY — Governor Brian Sandoval announced Thursday the appointment of William Anderson as Director of the Department of Taxation, effective Feb. 12. Anderson will replace outgoing Director Deonne Contine who resigned earlier this month.

The Carson High School HOSA, Future Health Professionals had a Health Career Display Competition with 34 teams from 3 Health Science II classes. Each was judged on the display board’s information, artistic value and originality as well as a 5 minute oral presentation.

Gov. Brian Sandoval on Friday announced the appointment of Sandra Douglass Morgan to the Nevada Athletic Commission and also named Brian Krolicki and Bob Cashell to the Nevada Commission on Tourism.

(Reno, Nev.) – Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval’s former deputy chief of staff, Ann Wilkinson, has been named the new National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges’ (NCJFCJ) director of human resources.

Most recently, Wilkinson served Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval’s administration as an agency executive and as a senior advisor. In her role as deputy chief of staff, Wilkinson’s work focused on healthcare policy and serving as the Governor’s liaison on health and human service initiatives.

Duncan Golf Management has named Joe Kelly to the position of director of golf operations. Kelly comes to the job with 40 years of experience as a PGA golf professional in southern Nevada along with an impressive list of credentials including being a 2015 inductee into the Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame.

Kelly has been with Walters Golf, a division of the Walters Group, in Las Vegas for the past 16 years. He was responsible for golf operations at all Walters owned and operated courses including Bali Hai Golf Club, Desert Pines Golf Course and Royal Links Golf Club.

Managing water in northern Nevada’s Truckee-Carson River System requires local communities to balance urban, agricultural and ecosystem needs. Changes in historical climate trends are increasingly expected to make this balancing act more challenging. A competitive grant totaling $3.8 million has been awarded to the University of Nevada, Reno and the Desert Research Institute in partnership with the U.S.

An ancient forest of mature pine trees, standing upright under 100 feet of water in a small lake in the Lake Tahoe Basin, helps scientists as they study how changing climate can affect mountain environments and the communities in them. The trees, discovered and studied by a University of Nevada, Reno, researcher, are remnants of a 200-year-long medieval drought.

The site is a stop on one of the field trips of a four-day international conference on mountain observatories held at the University of Nevada, Reno July 16-19.

Nevada Congressman Mark Amodei had added several new faces to his office staff including Bernie Curtis, who recently retired as chief of the Nevada Division of Parole and Probation.

Curtis, of Gardnerville, will serve as field representative in Amodei’s Reno office. He brings more than 36 years of experience from across Northern Nevada in law enforcement, local government and the private sector, including serving as Douglas County Commissioner.

In support of a renewed movement to get just three more states to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment, Northern Nevada residents met and rallied in front of the Nevada Legislature at noon on Tuesday in support of Sausalito-resident Helene de Boissiere-Swanson.

Carson City – Nevada is one of only seven states to raise its overall Election Performance Index average by more than 10 percentage points, and is the most improved in the nation in the rate of military and overseas ballots returned, according to the PEW Charitable Trusts’ EPI study released today. Nevada’s performance ranking leaped from 22nd to 5th between the 2008 and 2012 elections, putting it in the top 10 percent of states.
