Muscle Powered Trash Mob this Saturday

The new parking area at East Silver Saddle Ranch on Sierra Vista Lane in Carson City is in and it is looking good. This Saturday will be a chance for Trash Mob volunteers to clean up the area and make it attractive to families.

Upper Colony Road Fire in Smith Valley more than 1,180 acres, sixth brush fire in Lyon County since June 2

UPDATE: 8:42AM: From Lyon County Facebook page: Lyon County had its 6th wildfire since June 2. The Upper Colony burned more than 1,000 acres on June 17, 2018. A Type 3 Incident Management Team took the fire over at 8 p.m.
The Smith Valley Fire District did an outstanding job working the fire and bringing in resources. Over 300 people fought this fire with 25 Engines, 3 Helicopters, 8 fixed wing aircraft, and 4 hand crews.

Lyon County opened a shelter at the Smith Valley Baptist Church. LCSO managed evacuations with the assistance of SAR and Douglas County. The Large Animal Rescue Team assisted with sheltering livestock.

Nevada's school performance report card was released Thursday with three Carson City schools, three Douglas County schools, and two Lyon County schools earning above-the-standards recognition in the freshly released Nevada School Performance Framework data.

Meet at the first parking area on the right on Sierra Vista Ln off of Pinon Hills Drive. All events are free, participants are responsible for their own transportation to the meeting site and the leader may request a physician's release at their discretion and all events require closed-toed shoes and water.

Muscle Powered Evening Conditioning Hikes Program:

Evening hikes of 4-6 miles in length with an elevation gain, sometimes over 500 feet and usually on single track trail. The evening hike will usually be 1½ hour duration or more.

Meet at the first parking area on the right on Sierra Vista Lane off Pinon Hills Drive. If it rains or snows, meet at the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center (MAC) at 1860 Russell Way.

Easy Walk Program. Walks of 1 to 2 miles in length with none or negligible elevation gain, and frequently paved or smooth
paths. The walks will usually be of approximately one hour in duration.

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of June 1-7, 2015. Roadway sealing will continue resulting in road closures in the following areas, at which time there will be traffic control in place:
— The area along Deer Run Road and Pinon Hills Drive, Monday, June 1 and the general vicinity of Washington Street to the north, Roop Street to the east, Seventh Street to the south, and Carson Street to the west; as well as along Morgan Mill Road, Sunday, June 7.

Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report through May 31

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of May 25-31, 2015: Due to roadway sealing, there will be road closures throughout the entire week east of downtown in the general vicinity of William Street to the north, Saliman Road to the east, Fifth Street to the south, and Carson Street to the west, as well as along Deer Run Road and Pinon Hills Drive and the neighborhood directly west of Fremont Elementary School.

Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report through May 24

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of May 18-24: On Monday, May 18, the northbound left turn lane on Carson Street at Hot Springs Road will be closed. On Tuesday, May 19, the intersection of Division and Washington Streets will be closed due to tree maintenance. Detours will be signed.

New Project in Lyon and Mineral counties planned to help bi-state sage grouse

In a continuing effort to help increase the population of Bi-State sage grouse, the Nevada Department of Wildlife is partnering with the U.S. Forest Service to address major threats to the population within an area located in Lyon and Mineral counties.
