5th Annual CHS Safe and Sober 5k Run/Walk a Success

The 5th annual CHS Safe and Sober 5k Run/Walk was a tremendous success with turn-out of 113 participants. The weather cleared up this morning and with just a bit of wind at race time, we couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather, maybe even a sunburn.

If you are like Elaine and I, I would be willing to bet that by now, you are feeling trapped in your home by our winter weather. As a die-hard winter addict, I personally love cold days, frosty nights, frigid temperatures, deep snow, thick ice, long hours of darkness and the starkness of our landscapes in the wintertime.

However, I must candidly admit that our winter this year has not had the deep snow and ice that I dearly love.

Eagles & Agriculture, the Carson Valley‘s annual gathering of eagles and celebration of agriculture, is now accepting reservations for the 2015 event.

The Feb. 19-22 event will be the 13th Eagles & Ag, and is a combined effort of the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce, UNR Cooperative Extension, The Nature Conservancy, Lahonton Audobon Society and Valley ranchers.

The 2015 version sees a few adjustments. For the first time ever, The Ranch & Eagle Tour & Luncheon will be offered on both Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Reno Tahoe Helicopters Receives Air Carrier Certification

Reno Tahoe Helicopters / Heliminden LLC received its Air Carrier Certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Nov. 25, 2014. This certification allows the company to offer charter services for air taxi in the United States, and serving the Northern California/Reno area, including tours to Napa, Calistoga, and Sonoma.

“We are the only operators in the area to have the Air Carrier Certification. We are proud to be able to offer our clients the expanded services of air taxi,” said Claudio Bellotto, Chief Pilot and Owner of Reno Tahoe Helicopters/HeliMinden.

Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber announces 2014 Blue Ribbon Award winners

Thursday night’s 7th Annual Blue Ribbon Awards was the largest yet with over 300 guests in attendance as individuals and businesses were recognized for their exemplary services, products and programs in the South Shore community. Produced by the Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce, also known as TahoeChamber, this prestigious awards program solicited nominations for six categories and eight total awards.

Over 175 nominations were received and 95 of those nominated joined their peers at the Nov. 13 awards ceremony at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe.

St. Marys Art and Retreat Center in Virginia City to hold Saturday reception

St. Marys Arts and Retreat Center in Virginia City will host a reception for its art show “a winter tonic” on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014 from 1 to 4 p.m. The reception will feature the work of Danish artist Nes Lerpa, Megan Berner, Jessica White and Dusty Roads artists.

Folk musicians Paula Frazer, Jacob Aranda, and David Cuetter will perform. In addition, the exhibit will include the best work from students in the Reno High School Advanced Art class. Kelsey Rolling, Emily Jiang, and Tyler Hart are students of Lauren Gandolfo.

Art doll maker Christine Shively-Benjamin of Carson City will be among the 30 artists from Northern Nevada featured at the 20th annual Artisan Show and Sale in Reno Nov. 7 and 8 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. Sixteen pieces of original art will also be given away.

According to Judy Carlson, one of the show coordinators, the juried show features returning artists and new artists displaying a variety of techniques and media.

Nevada Artists Association's 64th 'Nevada Day' Art Show begins Oct. 27

The 64th Nevada Day Art Show hosted by the Nevada Artists Association, is its biggest show of the year. This judged show will open on Monday, Oct. 27 and run through Friday, Jan. 2, 2015.

This exhibition was opened to all Nevada and Northern California artists and thus brings out the best and most recent works of the regions best painters, sculptors and photographers.

Awards are given for each media, Water color, oil, acrylic, pastel, photography and other, Best of show and Spirit of Nevada.

Nevada Artists Association 'Photography Show' at BAC through October, reception Saturday

The Nevada Artists Association presents its annual "Photography Show" now through Oct. 24. The show, at Carson City's Brewery Arts Center, is exhibiting the work of the regions best photographers and painters.

A reception will be held for the photographers, painters and artists Saturday Sept. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. The public is invited to view the exhibit, meet the artists and partake of libations and refreshments. Located at 499 West King Street, the NAA's BAC Gallery is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Always Lost: A Meditation on War’ Exhibition at Historic Minden Inn Through Sept. 12

A Western Nevada College student veteran crouches down on her knees to search for those she served with. The mother of a fallen soldier stares at the face of her son. The Wall of the Dead quietly tells the story of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts, and the thousands who have died.

“Always Lost, A Meditation on War,” the nationally touring humanities exhibition created by WNC students and faculty, opened Monday at the historic Minden Inn, 1594 Esmeralda Ave., and remains through Friday, Sept. 12.
