A free continuing education opportunity for those in public safety is available at the 2nd Annual National Summit of State Tip Lines: Intersection of Law Enforcement, Education and Mental Health.

Going into the second week of October, there's plenty of events around the capital city for this Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019 including a morning walk, evening hike and a bike ride with Muscle Powered. There's also art showings, the grand opening of Carson City's Postal Annex, family movie night at the Carson City Library featuring "Muppets from Space," as well as Big Band jazz music with a fall theme at Living the Good Life and more. The Carson City Republican Committee is pleased to have Mayor Bob Crowell at our Oct. 24 General Meeting to discuss what it has meant for him to be Mayor and how to get involved and participate in City Government.

Heading into Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019, events around the capital city include a TRIAD presentation for Carson City residents on the new Smart911 system, a discussion of the sheriff's office Mobile Outreach Safety Team at a meeting of the Carson City Republican Women organization, a morning walk, evening hike and a bike ride with Muscle Powered, a Fat Tuesday Business Networking event at J's Bistro in Dayton, family craft night at the library and more.

Events around the capital city include a monthly lunch series at the Nevada State Library featuring author, professor and poet Lindsay Wilson, a Sierra Nevada Forum discussion on Nevada's Native Tribes, past, present and future; heart and vascular screenings through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, a morning walk, evening hike and a bike ride with Muscle Powered, archery at Centennial Park, family craft and movie night at Carson City Library and more.

Carson High School will again open its doors a little wider and longer for the 3rd Annual Back-to-School Night like no other Sept. 9. Open House, Open Hearts is a community event focused on building bridges to local services for teens and their families, increasing parent and guardian engagement at CHS, and celebrating the community, creativity, and diverse talents of Carson City.

Heading into Thursday, August 29, 2019 and we're ready and due for the upcoming three-day holiday weekend ahead. Looking around the Carson City area for Thursday there's art showings, a Muscle Powered hike, a Partnership Carson City training and lunch and then a vigil to recognize and prevent opioid overdose and more.

PAL provides education and support, at no cost, for family members (over 18) trying to save a son, daughter or family member from addiction to alcohol or drugs. By attending our meetings on Tuesdays, 6 p.m. at Partnership Carson City office at 1925 N Carson City St., you will give and receive support from others who are facing the same challenges you are.

The public is invited to a candlelight vigil Thursday at Bob McFadden Plaza in honor of International Overdose Awareness Day.

“The opioid epidemic is so huge, even in a town of our size,” said Samantha Szoyka, the youth program and outreach coordinator for Partnership Carson City. “As a community, we are starting to talk about it, but people still don’t know what resources are available to them or how they can connect with those resources.”

The vigil, which begins at 7 p.m., will feature a guest speaker and booths distributing information.

CARSON CITY — A new video being distributed across the state is aimed at sparking a larger discussion about opioid addiction and ways to combat it.

“It’s such a big epidemic in Nevada,” said Sam Szoyka, training specialist for Partnership Carson City. “But, at the same time, no one is really talking about it.”

During a break at the Nevada Statewide Youth Summer Camp, Tyler Murray of Silver Springs tossed a football around a small circle of campers.

While he said he enjoyed the activities, he mostly appreciated the sense of connection he’s felt and the lessons learned about being vulnerable.

PAL (Parents of addicted loved ones) meeting on Tuesday, June 11, we will be showing the video Pleasure Unwoven- a personal journey about addiction and is it really a disease or a choice? at 6pm at Partnership Carson City at 1925 N Carson St in the conference room. One of the great things about our high desert climate is is how quickly conditions can change. Miranda grew up in Carson City, went to Carson High School, lived a normal childhood. She is the second oldest of four siblings, and grew up with loving parents. But her life changed forever when she became addicted to drugs.

Her mother, Kristi, has been fighting to keep her daughter alive since then, facing numerous near-death scares.

The first of two Partnership Carson City prescription drug roundups of 2019 was a public safety success. Saturday’s community event netted 414 pounds of pills and 137 pounds of needles.

There's lots of activities ahead, including a colorful fun run at Mills Park, a free paper and document recycling event hosted by Debug Computer, a prescription drug roundup, the Silver State's own celebration of the Aloha State, a Carson High School speech team fundraiser at Flavors of India, art showings and sales and a fundraiser at Flat Earth Pizza for a wonderful Carson City woman who is in the throes of cancer. As part of the federal Drug Roundup initiative, Partnership Carson City will set up drug roundup stations 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 27, in front of both Save Mart Supermarkets, 3620 N. Carson and 4348 S. Carson streets; Smith’s Food & Drug Store, 559 E. William St.; and FoodMaxx, 3325 Highway 50 East.
