PAL provides education and support, at no cost, for family members (over 18) trying to save a son, daughter or family member from addiction to alcohol or drugs. By attending our meetings on Tuesdays, 6 p.m. at Partnership Carson City office at 1925 N Carson City St., you will give and receive support from others who are facing the same challenges you are.

Vigil planned to recognize and prevent opioid overdose; training provided Thursday

The public is invited to a candlelight vigil Thursday at Bob McFadden Plaza in honor of International Overdose Awareness Day.

“The opioid epidemic is so huge, even in a town of our size,” said Samantha Szoyka, the youth program and outreach coordinator for Partnership Carson City. “As a community, we are starting to talk about it, but people still don’t know what resources are available to them or how they can connect with those resources.”

The vigil, which begins at 7 p.m., will feature a guest speaker and booths distributing information.

Partnership Carson City opioid documentary distributed across Nevada

CARSON CITY — A new video being distributed across the state is aimed at sparking a larger discussion about opioid addiction and ways to combat it.

“It’s such a big epidemic in Nevada,” said Sam Szoyka, training specialist for Partnership Carson City. “But, at the same time, no one is really talking about it.”

Youth from around Nevada learn crafts, life skills at Tahoe summer camp

During a break at the Nevada Statewide Youth Summer Camp, Tyler Murray of Silver Springs tossed a football around a small circle of campers.

While he said he enjoyed the activities, he mostly appreciated the sense of connection he’s felt and the lessons learned about being vulnerable.

Addiction in Carson City: a mother’s story of heartbreak, and a daughter’s struggle for recovery

Miranda grew up in Carson City, went to Carson High School, lived a normal childhood. She is the second oldest of four siblings, and grew up with loving parents. But her life changed forever when she became addicted to drugs.

Her mother, Kristi, has been fighting to keep her daughter alive since then, facing numerous near-death scares.

Carson City's prescription drug roundup takes in 551 pounds of pills and needles

The first of two Partnership Carson City prescription drug roundups of 2019 was a public safety success. Saturday’s community event netted 414 pounds of pills and 137 pounds of needles.

As part of the federal Drug Roundup initiative, Partnership Carson City will set up drug roundup stations 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 27, in front of both Save Mart Supermarkets, 3620 N. Carson and 4348 S. Carson streets; Smith’s Food & Drug Store, 559 E. William St.; and FoodMaxx, 3325 Highway 50 East.
