A reminder of special sage grouse hunt applications period

This is a reminder that applications for the 2011 Special Sage Grouse Hunt at Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) are now available on the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) website at ndow.org/hunt/apps/.
The Sheldon hunt will be open for two weekends Sept. 17-18 and Sept. 24-25. This is a permitted hunt, with 75 permits awarded by random draw available for each hunt by reservation only.
The hunt is open to both residents and nonresidents.
Carson City man arrested after allegedly using brother's ID to get out of jail
Submitted by editor on Wed, 07/20/2011 - 4:14amA 29-year-old Carson City man faces a felony charge of false identification after he allegedly used his brother's identification when bail was posted.
Daryl Jacinto Reyes, with a listed occupation as a tattoo artist, reportedly gave authorities his brother's name, date of birth and Social Security number because he had a warrant in the state of Oregon for not checking in with his parole and probation officer after he moved to Nevada, according to the arrest report.
The bail was posted by Reyes sister-in-law, who had intended the bail money, $489, to be used for her husband.

Oregon fishery managers decided to close the central Oregon coast (Cape Falcon to Humbug Mountain) nearshore (inside 40 fathoms) sport Pacific halibut fishery on 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, because the quota is projected to be attained.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports: The road is open, but there is still a LOT of snow around the lake. The lake is about 80% ice covered with some fishable water. Unfortunately, there is enough snow on the ice, you can't tell what is safe and what isn't. With this week's warm temps and some wind, next weekend may be a different story.

Three more all-depth days added to Oregon halibut season

Oregon fishery managers added three days to the all-depth sport halibut fishery off the central Oregon coast.
Fishing for Pacific halibut will be open Thursday, June 23, through Saturday, June 25, at all depths.
The spring all-depth season for the central coast area – from Cape Falcon (30 miles south of the Columbia River) to Humbug Mountain (south of Port Orford) – opened May 12 on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays only.

Department of Fish and Game biologists are expecting a promising north coast salmon fishing season through Labor Day, Sept. 5.
The sport season opened Saturday in the Klamath Management Zone, which stretches from the Oregon border to Horse Mountain, located just north of Shelter Cove.
The return of a healthy sport fishing season is excellent news for anglers and businesses in the region.

Pair sought on child luring charges arrested in Oregon
Submitted by editor on Tue, 04/05/2011 - 3:47pmUPDATE 8:10PM: Two suspects wanted by Douglas authorities on three counts of Luring a Child under the age of 14 were arrested in Oregon tonight.
Angela Koontz, 26, and her 34-year-old husband George Redmon Jr. were arrested and will be extradited back to Nevada, said Douglas County Sgt. Jim Halsey.
Douglas authorities had suspected the couple learned of warrants for their arrest and fled the county. A Secret Witness alert had been issued earlier this afternoon.
Oregon Steelhead forecast bodes well for summer fishery

The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission has set the 2011 sport halibut seasons for the Oregon Coast.
Oregon halibut anglers will enjoy slightly more fishing opportunity in 2011 thanks to a 12 percent increase in the harvest quota set by the International Pacific Halibut Commission, according to Gway Rogers-Kirchner, ODFW marine fishery manager.
