UPDATE: The Wyndham Garden hotel in Carson City, connected with Max Casino and the Black Bear Diner, is now the Federal Hotel, which will be part of the Choice Hotels brand.

According to General Manager Michael Newberger, Choice Hotels rebranded the hotel at 900 South Carson Street and the name change, which went into effect on Dec. 18.

There are plans in place to renovate the 91 guest rooms and suites, as well as some of the lobby area.

The ownership has not changed, however, just the name of the hotel and the hotel brand from Wyndham to Choice Hotels.

Scoobyz Thrift Store and Collectibles is now reopen with newly expanded space, same location, 3569 US Hwy 50E, Carson City. Christmas bells would normally be ringing when Carson City resident Chef Don Pepe holds his annual holiday fundraiser for Pets of the Homeless, a Carson City-based 501(c)3 national non-profit that raises money to provide food, veterinary care and other essentials for the pets of homeless persons.

But 2020 is different.

Eric Steven Abowd left this world all too early at the age of 39 on Tuesday, January 7, 2020.

Eric was born March 28, 1980 in Seattle, Washington but moved to Carson City shortly after, where he spent all his growing-up years. Eric bled Nevada blue and white as a wrestler, running back and Captain for the Carson High Football program. He was always happiest driving the ball up the field.

Five years ago, Chef Don Pepe launched a holiday fundraiser to help Pets of the Homeless, a Carson City-based 501(c)3 non-profit that raises money to provide food, veterinary care and other essentials to the pets of homeless persons.

As summer winds down, fall events in Tahoe South are ramping up. And the secret’s out: Fall in Tahoe South is one of the most idyllic times to visit with mild weather, off-season lodging rates, more beach space and numerous events starting Labor Day Weekend.

Saturday, August 3

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days, including Hot August Nights Kickoff Rallies in Virginia City, history walks at Mormon Station Park, pickleball at the Carson City MAC, concerts at the Brewery Arts Center and TJ’s Corral, a Muscle Powered Sunday morning bike ride and more!

The annual fundraiser for the Friends of the Nevada State Museum is set for Saturday, August 3. Member Judi Miller has created another fabulous quilt to be raffled off at the Night with Notorious Nevadans – The Mint Edition fundraising event.

Greater Nevada Field groundskeeper Leah Withrow is one of a kind.

Her profession is unknown to most fans, but she is the only female fields operation assistant in all of Triple-A baseball.

The Nevada Day Show art exhibit is open at the Nevada Artists Association's gallery located at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City. Meanwhile, students are invited to participate in the upcoming Holiday Art Show, which will open Dec. 1.

Silver City Arts and Carson City artists are forming a sister city alliance.

The event takes place Saturday, December 1, 2018 in the Silver City Schoolhouse Community Center located at 385 High Street in Silver City from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.

The Unique Crafters Gift Shop inside the Carson City Senior Center presents its annual Holiday Faire, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8.

The Gallery on Main in Genoa, NV will be holding an Artisans Market on their store patio this weekend. Local artisans will be selling their hand made one of a kind items. Stop by and see the many interesting items that will be offered.

Gail Rogers of Gail's Earthly Creations in Minden will be the featured artist of the month for September at Carson City Art Gallery in downtown Carson City.

August 26th St. Mary's Art Center will host our Summer Art Reception, featuring beautiful works by amazing artists and artisans. Last weekend the cyclists ruled our city, but now the hot-rodders are king of the road.
