Federal Hotel opens within Carson City's Max Casino, 91 guest rooms, suites to be renovated

UPDATE: The Wyndham Garden hotel in Carson City, connected with Max Casino and the Black Bear Diner, is now the Federal Hotel, which will be part of the Choice Hotels brand.

According to General Manager Michael Newberger, Choice Hotels rebranded the hotel at 900 South Carson Street and the name change, which went into effect on Dec. 18.

There are plans in place to renovate the 91 guest rooms and suites, as well as some of the lobby area.

The ownership has not changed, however, just the name of the hotel and the hotel brand from Wyndham to Choice Hotels.

Carson City chef launches months long fundraiser for Pets of the Homeless

Christmas bells would normally be ringing when Carson City resident Chef Don Pepe holds his annual holiday fundraiser for Pets of the Homeless, a Carson City-based 501(c)3 national non-profit that raises money to provide food, veterinary care and other essentials for the pets of homeless persons.

But 2020 is different.

Eric Steven Abowd left this world all too early at the age of 39 on Tuesday, January 7, 2020.

Eric was born March 28, 1980 in Seattle, Washington but moved to Carson City shortly after, where he spent all his growing-up years. Eric bled Nevada blue and white as a wrestler, running back and Captain for the Carson High Football program. He was always happiest driving the ball up the field.
