Pennington grant to provide many benefits to WNC students pursuing science, medical careers

When the renovation of Western Nevada College’s biophysical science and cadaver labs is completed next fall, students pursuing careers in medical and science fields stand to benefit the most from the $1.45 million project funded by the William N. Pennington Foundation.

Western Nevada College re-establishing nursing program in Fallon

A strong desire at Western Nevada College to restore nursing classes at the Fallon campus is coming to fruition, thanks to a partnership between Churchill County, the U.S. Department of Labor, and the college.

The partnership with Churchill County provides WNC with the use of a 2,500-square-foot laboratory space located one mile from the Fallon campus.

WNC will be able to provide nursing coursework to students from the Fallon region.

Western Nevada College nursing student named 2016 Regents Scholar Award recipient

Pursuing an education in nursing has taken Diana Meza Cabrera on a lengthy road of challenges, experiences and rewards.

Since graduating from high school in 2006, Meza Cabrera consistently found ways to help others. As an outreach educator for the Live Violence Free program in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., she has assisted domestic violence, child abuse and sexual abuse victims. She also been a student assistant at the Humboldt State University Health Center, and has participated in blood and toothbrush drives while attending WNC.

Western Nevada College graduates record number of students at spring 2014 commencements

Western Nevada College will graduate 543 students this spring. Commencement was held Monday in Carson City with a ceremony to be held Tuesday in Fallon. The class of 2014 will receive a record 581 degrees and certificates.

Also on Monday, the WNC nursing program graduates celebrated with a traditional pinning ceremony at the Carson Nugget. Dr. Tom Kubistant, a WNC psychology and communications instructor, delivered the Carson City ceremony commencement address.

Western Nevada College will graduate 543 students at two commencement ceremonies on Monday, May 19, and Tuesday, May 20. The class of 2014 will receive a record 581 degrees and certificates.

Graduation ceremonies are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, May 19, in Carson City at the Pony Express Pavilion, 1111 E. William St. and on Tuesday, May 20, 7 p.m., in Fallon at the Barkley Theatre at Oaks Park Art Center, 151 Park St.

Western Nevada College to graduate its largest class Monday

CARSON CITY — For the fourth consecutive year, Western Nevada College will graduate its largest class in history. The class of 2013 is 505 students strong, with 530 degrees and certificates being issued.

Four students will receive Bachelor of Technology degrees in construction management, and three students will graduate with bachelor’s degrees as part of WNC’s teacher preparation partnership with Nevada State College. The graduates span 60 years, from the youngest at age 17 and the eldest at 77.
