Eric Holland's new paintings on display at the Rinckel Mansion

The show opens with a reception to meet the artist Friday, July 7 (1–6 pm) and Saturday, July 8, (9 am - 6 pm). The show will hang through the end of July and be open to the public during business hours. This also affords an opportunity to see the beautifully restored Rinckel Mansion, one of Carson City's grand historic buildings.

Television cameras (and Walter Cronkite) were there and Walt Disney choreographed the opening and closing ceremonies.

Mountain Picassos: Basque Arborglyphs of the Great Basin

“Mountain Picassos: Basque Arborglyphs of the Great Basin” is part of the Nevada Touring Initiative’s Traveling Exhibition Program and will be on display at WNC’s Carson City campus from Monday, Feb. 13 through Friday, April 7.
It provides a rare opportunity to see some of the intimate personal images inscribed by Basque sheepherders in the aspen groves of the Great Basin during the first half of the 20th century.

The show opens Saturday February 4, (1–6 pm) for the monthly Carson City wine walk. A special reception will be held the evening of Wednesday, February 8 (4–8 pm) to welcome the Nevada legislators to the 2017 session.

Local Author's Book At Nevada Historical Society

Co-written with N.H.S. docent and historian, Arline La Ferry, La Nae states, "This is a universally true honor!"
"Weird Reno" is full of historic accounts from the mid-1800s to present date, as well as interesting and strange happenings through Reno's past.

In celebration of the state’s 150th birthday, the full 13-episode series “Home Means Nevada 1986: Folklife in the Silver State” has been digitized.

Volunteers are in the mix of Nevada’s 150th Birthday Cake
Submitted by editor on Wed, 03/05/2014 - 11:12amMisti Gower is known by co-workers at Nevada’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources as a cake baker extraordinaire. So, no one was surprised when she and Heidi Englund of the Nevada Historical Society agreed to create a 13 foot wide by 21 foot long cake in the shape of Nevada to commemorate the great cake caper of 1964.
The monumental undertaking has started to come together as DCNR colleagues and others have jumped in to help bake, build and serve the 1,300 pound confection.

The event is called "Art in the Afternoon" and will take place at the Jones Mansion in Gold Hill on November 9 and 10.

An American Songline: Show commemorates Lincoln Highway centennial across country

Cece Otto is a classically trained vocalist who has performed in venues all over the world.
She set out to create a project that fused her passions for music, travel and writing into a unique creative work. “An American Songline” was born as a cross-country musical journey that takes her from New York to San Francisco along the Lincoln Highway, America's first transcontinental road, to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2013.

Virginia City Bonanza Days to feature Comstock lecture, commemorative coin

He will be joined by the Comstock Civil War Re-enactors who will assist in hosting the dinner in character. The Marshall Mint will premiere the first strike of its new Big Bonanza commemorative silver coin at the event.

The inaugural Big Bonanza Days Dinner and Awards Ceremony will take place on Saturday, March 5, at Virginia City's newest hotel, the Silverland Inn & Suites.
The Silverland is the major sponsor of the event. Proprietor Hugh Roy Marshall is a longtime amateur Nevada historian. He involved two experienced Nevada business executives in the revival of one of Virginia City's most storied events.
