In anticipation of the Carson City Off Road 2018 mountain bike event in June, the promoting agency Epic Rides will hold a community signup and discount night Jan. 3 at The Fox Brewpub.

CHS opened its doors a little longer, a little wider, and totally unplugged for Sept. 11-17, 2017. Students and staff participated in daily activities supporting and encouraging a non-digital learning environment. Each day, five standards of Social and Emotional Learning were touched by encouraging students to power-down their phones and unplug.

Promoting Carson City’s paranormal, improving blighted spaces and creating mountain bike destinations are among the projects the Carson City Visitors Bureau is lining up with help from Travel Nevada.

This week's edition of It's Your City with host Cortney Bloomer features Kurt Meyer, program manager for the second annual Epic Rides Off Road Carson City mountain biking event, this Friday through Sunday, June 16-18.

Mallory and Molly Otto, both 18, were new to mountain biking last year when the Carson City Off-Road came to town.

Memorial Day weekend is the kick off for the summer, and traditionally it is a very busy weekend on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Adapting to a very snowy winter in the northern Sierra Nevada, Epic Rides announced Tuesday a modified course for the Capitol 35 and Capitol 50 events for the 2nd Annual Carson City Off-Road mountain bike festival June 16-18. The Capitol 15 will be unchanged from last year.

Mongoose bikes is helping support the Pioneer High School transition program. The transition program at the Carson City high school helps students into post higher education and career paths. Mongoose is providing bikes, helmets, and all the essentials to maintain a bike. Students will learn bike safety and how to complete basic bike maintenance.

The Carson Valley Trails Association, in partnership with The Nature Conservancy and the Carson Valley Medical Center, will present its 8th annual Hike for Health Day on Saturday, September 17, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at The Nature Conservancy’s River Fork Ranch, located east of the Town of Genoa at 381 Genoa Lane.

The inaugural Carson City Off-Road racing series, part of the Epic Rides mountain biking circuit, was more than successful.

It was epic.

Todd Sadow, co-founder and president of Epic Rides, said the race around the Nevada state capital exceeded expectations.

When their boys were little, Brian and Katie McRae would pull them along in trailers behind their bikes before upgrading to a tagalong. When the boys outgrew that, Brian would wrap a rubber tube around their bike stems and tow them behind his own bike.

Three days of thrill-seeking, mountain biking adventure and plenty of capital city hospitality and entertainment will kick off the inaugural Carson City Off-Road Epic Ride series beginning Friday and lasting through the weekend.

A special event slated to debut in Carson City this month is expected to benefit the the local economy on a graduated basis each year through 2020.

It’s estimated that Carson City Off-Road would generate $1 to $1.5 million in local revenue in 2016, said Joel Dunn, executive director, Carson City Visitors Bureau. About 30 percent of that would be spent for lodging and the rest for retail, restaurants and bars.

Organizers of Carson City's first Epic Rides Off-Road mountain bike event in June unveiled its event course Tuesday through a video and a series of maps. The event, June 17-19, will gives riders three distance options: beginner, weekend warrior and pro level.

Alum Presents Refugee information
CHS alum, Kaitlin Brush (class of 2004), presented to social studies classes this past month. Her informational presentation focused on the definition of refugees, migrants, and internally displaced persons, and the current refugee crisis in the Middle East and Europe and how different European countries are working to address the growing number of refugees.

With the Epic Rides Off-Road Series mountain biking race set for this summer, the Carson City Visitors Bureau can pump up the fat tire frenzy along with its promotion thanks in part to a $4,000 grant, among 65 approved for funding from the state’s rural tourism program, Nevada Lt. Carson High School has been back for three weeks and I think we are finally getting settled into new schedules, rekindling friendships, and getting acquainted with new teachers and students. However, our school year started with much sadness as our high school community lost one of our students in a tragic accident at Lake Tahoe.
