Parolee turns himself into Douglas County authorities
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 06/05/2012 - 7:46pmUPDATE: On Wednesday morning at approximately 6:45 am, parolee absconder Randy Nourse turned himself over to deputies at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Minden Station.
Nourse was previously reported as a fugitive from justice by the State of California, Department of Parole and Probation.
Nourse was safely taken into custody by Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputies without incident.
Nourse will remain in the Douglas County Jail pending his extradition back to California.

Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 05/30/2012 - 1:15amIt’s now official: Systems Consultants, the private computer firm in Fallon that conducts the annual computerized drawings for Nevada’s big game hunting tags, has posted the results of the 2012 drawings at Internet website www.huntnevada.com for the whole world to see.
There were a whole bunch of winners and a heck of a lot more losers in this year’s drawings for tags for Pronghorn Antelope, Mule Deer, Rocky Mt. Elk, California Bighorn Sheep, Desert Bighorn Sheep, Rocky Mt. Bighorn Sheep and Rocky Mt. Goat.
Fire restrictions go into effect tomorrow

Carson Valley Community Theatre's new play HOLKA POLKA

Larson, about the nicest witch in Fairytale Land, who embarks on a journey to save all the witches' reputations by saving the Prince. Along the way whe meets some familiar and misunderstood fairytale characters and she also comes to find that an historically sweet and loving character is really evil. This is a wonderful family show that will appeal to any age group. The play is directed by Gardnerville's own Riley Cooper.

GCA dedicates a week each school year to serve agencies and organizations within the area. Local businesses, corporations as well as private donors pledge money donations to the school in the fundraising effort that has the added benefit of developing character within the students.

McKeen motor car to ride the rails for National Train Day

Now a stellar attraction for rail enthusiasts and family fun, the McKeen Motor car operated from 1910 to 1945 racking up more than a half-million miles between Reno and Minden. The prestigious car became a diner and an office but was rescued by the museum when it was donated by the Bernhard family of Carson City in 1995.

- Steven Lewis Lisch, 32, a Santa Rosa, Calif. man, for a failure to appear warrant in his name and obtaining money under false pretenses. Lisch was also arrested for misdemeanor allegations of domestic battery. Lisch allegedly manipulated his girlfriend through threats of violence into attempting to cash a large fraudulent check at a US Bank in Carson City. Bail is set at $85,500 plus administrative fees.

Douglas authorities seek help in locating suspects who attempted to cash stolen checks at Bank of America

The primary suspect, an unidentified male adult, attempted to cash the stolen check at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday while using the drive-thru teller window, said Douglas County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Jim Halsey.

Winter storm could bring two feet of snow to Sierra

Chains and snow tires are required along mountain roads throughout the basin and over mountain passes.

Costa on Thu, 02/23/2012 - 3:08pmCarson City Sheriff's deputies arrested Kirkland Wayne Abel, 40, an HVAC installer from Carson City, at about 4:30 this morning at the 900 block of East Fifth Street. Abel was arrested for felony allegations of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamines), as well as two misdemeanor allegations of possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana. Abel allegedly got into an argument with his wife when he discovered that his thermostat had been changed from 65 degrees to 66 degrees. Bail is set at $5,100 plus administrative fees.
NHP trooper suffers minor injuries after patrol car hit by alleged DUI driver

NHP Trooper Dan Lopez was driving a Ford Crown Victoria sedan patrol call when the driver of another vehicle allegedly ran a red traffic signal at the intersection striking the left side of the patrol car at 5:19 a.m., said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen.

Vuletich has resigned to take the position in Douglas County offered to her this week by Mokrohisky, where she will serve as the assistant county manager/chief financial officer.
