Carson City deputies arrest men for possession of drugs, bottled mercury
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Fri, 01/24/2020 - 10:30amA 31-year-old Gardnerville man and a 29-year-old transient man were arrested in the area of the Goni Water Tower after deputies were alerted to a man in a vehicle next to the tower who appeared to be incapacitated and found they were allegedly using drugs and were in possession of several bottles of mercury.

Mercury levels in pet food to be studied by UNR scientists, crowdfunding to finance research

Preliminary analyses of a few dog food samples showed methylmercury to be a significant percentage of the total mercury.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office asks for the public’s help finding a missing woman. Lindsey Nelson, 34, was reported as a missing person by friends and family and entered into NCIC out of Carson City.

UNR researchers show a popular mercury measuring system yields inaccurate data
Submitted by editor on Mon, 12/14/2015 - 3:15pmResearchers at the University of Nevada, Reno have found that an instrument the scientific community commonly uses to measure mercury in the air yields inaccurate results.
Principal researcher Mae Gustin in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences has been leading the effort to determine the accuracy of a widely used mercury measuring instrument. The study is expected to support and inform regulatory decision-making aimed at protecting human and wildlife health.
Carson City Weather: Rain and snow by week's end

Don’t get too excited for warmer temperatures though, as a storm system is expected to arrive by Thursday, bringing with it rain and wind for Carson City, and several feet of snow in the Sierra.
Expect highs temps to reach the low 40’s by Friday with our low temperature around 20 degrees, and with it a good chance at snow showers going into Saturday where we will greet another partly cloudy weather pattern.

Carson City sheriff’s log: Deputies make drug and DUI arrests over the weekend
Submitted by editor on Mon, 10/05/2015 - 10:49amA 45-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 7 a.m. at Carson City jail on gross misdemeanor charges of interfering with a police officer and battery of a police officer, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, the suspect had reversed kicked his cell door and took swings at a deputy, hitting him in the back of the head.

UNR Police ask for public's help in locating missing student

Roommates and campus faculty say they have not seen him for a week. University Police believe Baldwin left campus in his vehicle to an unknown destination and has not contacted his employer, family or friends with his whereabouts.
