Carson City weather: Heat and threat of thunderstorms prompt Fire Weather Watch

The combination of hot, dry conditions and the threat of thunderstorms arriving Friday has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Fire Weather Watch for much of Western Nevada including Carson City.

Flash Food Watch for Lake Tahoe, Carson City region and Western Nevada

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch today for much of western Nevada, including Carson City, Carson Valley, Lake Tahoe and Dayton areas. Abundant low to mid level moisture from sustained south-southeast flow will combine with daytime heating to produce thunderstorms throughout throughout the region.

How much rain and snow did we get? Depends on where you were

With skies clearing Saturday afternoon after a good soaking overnight and showers earlier in the week, the National Weather Service says around a half inch of rain has fallen in the last 48 hours around Carson City, with Carson Valley getting around .70 of an inch.

Outdoors with Don Q: California fishing season begins Saturday

This is my annual reminder that it’s almost time to have fun fishing in the Golden State once again. On Saturday, April 25 the 2015 fishing season will open for all applicable lakes, reservoirs, streams, creeks and rivers in the State of California.

That season will then remain open until Saturday, Nov. 15. If you’re new to this area, here’s some information that can be useful if you would like to fish on that Opening Day or for the entire Opening Weekend:

Hello fellow anglers, someone asked me the other day, when does fishing season open? I told him, I fish all year around. The rivers and streams in Alpine County are closed until April 25, 2015, but the lakes are open all year. As for ice fishing, that has come to a close for this year.

Due to our unusually strange winter, the higher lakes have started to thaw out. I talked with John Voss from Caples Lake last week. John said he has not seen such an early thaw in 40 years.

Warm-weather storm system could give valleys a good soaking through the weekend

The first in a series of storms should arrive to the Sierra, Lake Tahoe and Carson City region Thursday through Friday, bringing strong winds, a fairly decent amount of rain to the northern Sierra and snow at higher elevations, according to the National Weather Service.

Hello fellow anglers,  I have to tell you, I have seen some big trout come out of our local area. But Idaho has us beat. On Jan. 8, 2015, Larry Warren was fishing on the Clearwater River in Idaho. Larry was fishing with 6 pound test line and caught a 28 pound rainbow steelhead trout.
