Kitten Adoption Event

Bring home happiness this weekend with a special cat or kitten from Catmandu as part of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary National Adoption Weekend. The event is this Friday through Sunday July 22-24, from 11am to 3:30 pm.

Nevada Humane Society will host a kitten adoption event Thursday at Carson City Toyota, the grand prize sponsor of the organization's upcoming duck race event.

Three days. 32 cats. $0 to a good home. The Nevada Humane Society is wrapping up day two of a three-day free cat and kitten adoption event in hopes of rehoming every one of their furry felines. The clock stops on this free-for-all at 6 p.m on Sunday night.

Yeah, it’s hot out there, but it’s the area happenings that are sizzling. The Carson City Fair at Fuji Park offers a plethora of entertainment for all ages including tractor pulls, a carnival, and farm animals. Under the shade of the Mills Park cottonwoods, you’ll have all day to peruse the varied vehicles in the annual Run Whatcha Brung Car Show. The sun will come out tomorrow, but it’s the stars that are coming out tonight for the free Levitt Amp Concert at the Brewery Arts Center.

Welcome to the weekend, Carson City. Now that we are in November, thoughts turn to the holiday season. That means craft fairs. St. Paul’s Lutheran Family on Saliman welcomes you to their annual Craftique Open House. You’ll find the Young at Heart Seniors Club hosting a faire at the Douglas County Community Center. The Carson Nugget’s Sierra Room will be home to several artisans, vendors, and crafters during today’s wine walk. There’s quite a bit more, and plenty that doesn’t involve shopping, so take a look and have a great time.

How much fun can you pack into a weekend? That isn’t purely a rhetorical question – it’s more of a challenge. Grab the kids for a day at the Dangberg Home Historical Ranch where storytellers are the featured guests. Locals are in the spotlight at the Rockabilly Riot, the Iron Rebels Car Show is for resident cars only. The bells are ringing at the First United Methodist Church. Handbell Ensemble group, Tintabulations, presents a free concert at 7 p.m.

Let the good times roll, Carson City. Cars, chrome, choppers, and kruzers are in abundance. Run Whatcha Brung at Fuji Park is open to any and all cars that can get themselves there. The Rockabilly Riot and T Bucket Alliance at Mills Park is an American Graffiti flashback. Cheer on our local motorcycle cops at the Extreme Motor Challenge, or hop on your own bike and go on a poker run with the Lords of Iron Motorcycle Club.

Fire up that grill, Carson City, we’ve got the perfect weather to kick off the summer. The early Farmers Market at Musser and Nevada offers the perfect finishing touches to any picnic or bar-be-que. It’s all aboard for train lovers: the V&T begins its runs to Virginia City this weekend and the historic Glenbrook Engine is all steamed up at the Railroad Museum. Summer? Winter? Flip a coin. I could’ve guessed the rain was coming, my lilacs just started to bloom. Grab the kids and enjoy today’s open house with free admission at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada. Hold on to your hat, the weekend is here. If it’s a cowboy hat, head over to Genoa for their annual Cowboy Festival. Plenty of free things to see, hear, and experience await. The annual Spring Earth Spirit Faire lets you celebrate Mother Earth with workshops, holistic practitioners, great vendors, and a raffle. It benefits the Heart to Heart School and Advocates to End Domestic Violence so it’s always worth checking out. Hit the dance floor with the High Sierra Swing Dance Club; their monthly dance party is held in the Grand Ballroom of the Brewery Arts Center. What’s this? A weekend with no snow in sight? That’s the best news I’ve heard in months. Welcome to the wrestlers and swimmers who are in town for their respective tournaments: you’ll find other fun things on this list to occupy your downtime. It’s a St. Patty’s celebration in Virginia City this weekend with the parade, Rocky Mountain Oyster Fest, and Ball Buster Saloon Crawl. Bragging rights are on the line at the Sixth Annual Thirsty Boy Homebrew Competition sponsored by Just Brew It. What a great start to March. A few days on sunshine under our belt and now it’s wine walk weekend. With fingers crossed, the weather should hold out until it’s over, but be prepared for some wind. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for clear skies, but there are rumors of snow flurries. Luckily there are indoor and outdoor activities, no matter what blows our way. At the top of the list for today is Winter, Wine, Spirits, and All That Jazz at the Brewery Arts Center. Their annual fundraiser is not to be missed.

Fingers crossed, we’ve got a few days without the wet stuff. This winter seems like the song that never ends. We received late word that Saturday's monthly Trash Mob has been canceled. The good news is there's a day-long music fest at the Carson Colony Gym on South Curry is fundraising for the DAPL Water Protectors. Music, art, cinema, comedy and more are on tap for this weekend. Take a look for all of your options.

If everything goes as planned, the sun will finally make an appearance. That’s good news for those running in the Carson High Safe and Sober 5K or in Ascent Runs’ Love Can Be Cold 5/10K at Prison Hill. As this storm system moves in, it makes it difficult for list-makers, such as myself. I cannot predict which of these events will be affected or cancelled because of the snow. The show must go on for the kids of Youth Theater Carson City. ‘The Lion King, Jr.’ is in its final weekend of performances.

The snow has finally stopped falling and now it’s time to go play in it. What’s on your weekend fun list: snowmen and skiing or a toasty fire with a good book? If you’d like a less strenuous outdoor activity, then the Downtown Business Association’s monthly Wine Walk is a perfect choice. The wine walk is a rain, snow, or shine event, so bring an umbrella.
