If you happen to be up very early on Saturday morning, you may just see some runners in the pre-dawn hours. The Reno-Tahoe Odyssey, a 178 mile relay, passes through Carson City on its way to Virginia City. A huge congratulations goes out to the Class of 2017; the Carson High graduates will get their diplomas today. It’s wine walk weekend, so downtown will be hopping with sippers, strollers, and plenty of summer fun. Keep reading, and you’re sure to find something to make this weekend special.

Eyes on Carson City: Carl Howell music fundraiser at Jimmy Gs

A fundraiser for the inaugural Carl Howell Memorial Music Festival was held Saturday night at Jimmy G's Cigar Bar in downtown Carson City. Those who participated purchased various adult beverages by the shot.

I hope you got your fill of naps last weekend because this weekend is chock full of fun to be had for all. You can Wine Walk until you Holiday Crawl downtown. Take your pick of craft shows in town. Kids won’t want to miss the Santa Train at the State Railroad Museum or one of the two performances of ‘The Peanutcracker’ at the Community Center. Whether you’d like to spend the days indoors or out, there is something for all ages in the Carson City area this weekend.

Thursday, Nov. 24: Things to do on Thanksgiving

It’s a common tradition to say what you are thankful for today. I am grateful for you, Carson City, my community. Enjoy the day with your families, friends, and loved ones. It’s a quiet day in town. The annual Turkey Trot Run begins at 8:30 a.m. in front of the Governor’s Mansion, costumes are always welcome. A free Thanksgiving Day meal at the Carson Nugget is offered to all. A few local taverns will open this evening for some after-feast libations.

A Wassailing Weekend: Wine Walk and Holiday Crawl

Tis the season for wassailing all over downtown Carson City. Start Saturday, Dec. 5 off with the Downtown Business Association’s monthly wine walk, and stick around for the first ‘Holiday with a Hero’ Holiday Crawl.

Thanksgiving Day: Things to do in Carson City

Not surprisingly, most everything in town is closed today to celebrate a day of thanks with family and friends. Turkeys with all the trimmings, football games, and after-dinner naps will be served up across town. For those who would rather skip the fuss of a day spent in the kitchen, head on over to the Carson Nugget. The annual Community Feast fills up hearts and bellies. This evening, head downtown to celebrate at the Blue Bull, Westside Pour House, or Jimmy G's Cigar Bar.

Today is a good day for Hollywood and not just because the original ‘Hollywood’ sign was officially dedicated today in 1923. Harrison Ford, Patrick Stewart, and Cheech Marin get to claim the day as their birthday. So does Cameron Crowe: screenwriter of movie favorites like Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Say Anything, and Jerry Maquire. Speaking of Hollywood, make sure to get your tickets to the Carson City Classic Cinema Club’s First Annual Hollywood Gala Dinner and Fundraiser coming up on Saturday. The theme is the first Academy Awards, so pull out all the stops for the red carpet. More information here.

Karaoke Thursday night at Jimmy G's Cigar Bar a Relay for Life benefit

Jimmy G's Cigar Bar will host a Karaoke Contest Thursday night with all donations going to Carson City Relay For Life to benefit the American Cancer Society.
The entry is $5 buy-in to the contest with Jimmy G patrons to bet on the winner. Contestants to bring in the most money will be the winner of the event. Jimmy G's Cigar Bar is located at 301 N Carson St. The show starts at 9 p.m.

Wine Walk, ice skating with Santa Claus on tap today in downtown Carson City

Ice skating for the kids at Arlington Square Ice Rink across from the Carson Nugget and wine stops in downtown Carson City are on tap today.

The Carson City Downtown Business Association says that even though it's chilly outside, you can keep warm by bundling up, putting on a pair of skates or walking along the streets of downtown, where you can shop for holiday gifts (there's several gift shops and shopping opportunities throughout downtown) and sip some fine wine at any number of stops.

Holiday with a Hero fundraiser tonight at Jimmy G's; program gives homeless children gift experience

Hoping to meet a simple task of putting smiles on faces and Christmas gifts in the hands of more than 175 Carson City school children living in shelters, motels and with family members, organizers of the 9th annual Holiday with a Hero program will hold a fundraiser tonight, Saturday, at Jimmy G's Cigar Bar.

Seven Carson City businesses flagged in alcohol compliance check

Seven local businesses were flagged by the Carson City Sheriff's Office on Saturday during an alcohol to minors compliance check.

The team consisted of two deputies and two underage decoys, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office press statement. The decoys were sent into the businesses using their actual identification and they attempted to purchase alcohol from an employee.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office routinely conducts these checks with grant money it gets from the Nevada Juvenile Programs Justice Office.

Man arrested after allegedly throwing an elbow into a Carson City deputy's head

A 28-year-old Carson City man faces a gross misdemeanor charge of battery on a police officer, and a misdemeanor resisting charge after he allegedly elbowed an officer in the head on Sunday morning outside of a bar.
Carlos Edwards Lopez was taken into custody following the alleged assault. His bail has been set at $4,612. Deputies were dispatched to the 300 block of North Carson Street at about 2 a.m. after there was a report of a fight in progress, according to the arrest report.
