As a wildland firefighter who has lived in Carson City, Nevada, for more than 40 years, Robin has seen people who arrived at a shelter with nothing but the clothes on their back — “not even money in the wallet,” he said. “I knew that I never wanted to be put in that situation.”

Jehovah’s Witnesses will resume their trademark door-to-door ministry beginning September 1. The two and-a-half-year suspension of the work will end just in time for the launch of a global campaign featuring an interactive program for Bible study.

If you happen to be in Nevada this week, you may notice that a pre-pandemic fixture is back on the sidewalks: smiling faces standing next to colorful carts featuring a positive message and free Bible-based literature.

While Jehovah’s Witnesses have chosen to temporarily suspend their door-to-door ministry due to the pandemic, their activity was almost permanently banned by one U.S. village in the late 1990s — that is until the United States Supreme Court stepped in with a historic 8-1 decision on June 17, 2002, declaring the local ordinance unconstitutional.

COVID-19 shut down access to most U.S. prisons, including the  Lovelock Correctional Center located in Lovelock, Nevada,  where  Joe Arceo of Carson City volunteers with a group of Jehovah’s Witness ministers. Without warning, inmates were cut off from a robust Bible education program that included weekly Bible-based discourses, audience discussions, individual Bible studies and video presentations.

Carson City, Nevada, will be one of the thousands of communities around the globe that will receive a powerful message of hope this November as Jehovah’s Witnesses embark upon a special campaign focusing attention on the Bible’s hope for a better world.

Breaking a century-old tradition in the name of health and safety, the largest convention organization in the world has moved its annual in-person event to a virtual format for the second time in as many years, cancelling nearly 6,000 conventions in 240 lands.

Barbara Joy Mott was born to Frank and Ruby Clair in La Junta, Colorado on Oct. 3, 1932. She was Frank and Ruby's second child and only daughter. Her father was a blacksmith and metal worker but passed away when Joy was only ten years old.

After Frank's death the family made its living by picking fruit in California such as peaches, almonds, grapefruit, plums and sometimes cotton. Barbara always went by her middle name Joy and said that she didn't know that her first name was Barbara until she was in the fifth grade.

Jehovah's Witnesses in Carson City will be attending their annual convention starting Friday, June 24 in Sacramento.
The theme for this year's convention is: "Remain Loyal to Jehovah".
Several conventions will be held this summer at the Sacramento Convention Center.
The public is invited and there is no admission fee.
