Introduction

Continuing Education at Western Nevada College is offering a brand-new five-day coding boot camp program designed for middle and high school students from Monday, July 29 through Aug. 2. The course is offered in partnership with Alphalancers, LLC, a web design and development company based in Reno.

The countdown to the weekend begins as we head into midweek, Wednesday, July 24, 2019 with daytime highs in the low 90s and plenty of indoor and outdoor activities. Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events and activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by. On Friday, Muscle Powered will host a morning walk at the Carson City Multi-Use Path at 8 a.m. And there's coin press demonstrations at the Nevada State Museum.

The Carson City School District is pleased to announce campus improvements at three schools including Pioneer High, Fremont Elementary and Mark Twain Elementary schools.

This 5 day program is designed for middle- and high-school students, ages 12-17. It will provide an introduction to coding, with a focus on HTML. Students will complete a coding project by the end of the week, and will receive a certificate of completion.

We're looking at plenty of sunshine, warm temperatures and an extraordinary musical lineup today at Eagle Valley Golf Course in Carson City for the 11th annual Concert Under the Stars benefit for The Greenhouse Project. A classic film, cowboy poetry and western music in mid-July at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park in Carson Valley. On Thursday, July 18, at 6:30 pm, train expert Jim Clark will introduce and provide commentary on the 1926 film The General.

Carson City Symphony Association’s “Strings in the Summer,” a free program for string-instrument players of all ages, will begin on Monday morning, July 8, 2019. Laura Gibson, Associate Concertmaster of Carson City Symphony, is the instructor and conductor. Registration and tuition are free, donations welcome.

Chautauquan Kim Harris will portray Lizzie A. Borden on Wednesday, July 10, at 6:30 p.m., and historian Mark McLaughlin will speak on “Lake Tahoe and the Comstock Era; Stories, Facts and Fun” on Saturday, July 13, at 10 a.m., at Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.

Heading into the weekend, there's a bevy of events around the Carson City region that brings a cool breeze to the first three days of summer. The 16th Motor Officer Challenge kicks off Friday at 7 a.m. at Mills Park. Lace up the shoes for a Friday morning walk at East Silver Saddle Ranch hosted by Muscle Powered.

The Capital City Community Band and the Mile High Jazz Band Association, in cooperation with Carson Middle School, will present a free Summer Showcase Band Concert on Sunday, June 23, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center’s outdoor stage at Minnesota and King streets in Carson City, the same stage used for the Levitt Amp concerts. Some seating is available, and the public is invited to bring chairs.

An Americorps National Civilian Community Corps Team, Green Four, will be working with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Mason Valley to mentor children enrolled in its summer program.

During the team’s six week engagement, the seven young adults will serve over 150 children spread between the Yerington, Silver Springs and Dayton Boys and Girls Club sites.

Co-sponsored by Citizens' Climate Lobby, GreenACTNV, and Western Nevada College, this event focuses on the implications of climate change for businesses and the recreation economy in Western Nevada and Lake Tahoe.

This is an opportunity to learn more about the impacts of droughts, floods, fires, and warming temperatures on our regional economy and future generations.
