TOCCATA performances include Dec. 21 Carson City concert
Submitted by editor on Wed, 12/15/2010 - 3:37amThe Reno-Tahoe-Truckee community has six opportunities this December to enjoy TOCCATA’s wonderful tradition of producing selections from "Handel's Messiah" in a Holiday Concert, including a performance in Carson City on Tuesday, Dec. 21.
The Carson City performance will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. The Carson City concert features the 60-voice Carson High School Concert Choir, alumni and Carson soloists, and will be a benefit for the high school choir’s future tour presentations.

With a winter storm warning in effect until 4 p.m. today followed by a blast of cold weather through Wednesday, conditions on Northern Nevada roads remain icy and will likely continue that way through the holiday travel period.

Submitted by editor on Thu, 11/04/2010 - 10:54amDennis Oliver, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency's public information officer, has died after a brain illness. He was 47.
Oliver was admitted to the hospital about three weeks ago, according to TRPA External Affairs Director Julie Regan. He died overnight Wednesday at Carson Tahoe Hospital of an apparent brain virus which attacks the meylin around the nerve cells, said friend Michael Carr.
"TRPA is deeply saddened to share the news with the community of the loss of Dennis Oliver, who was an extremely valued employee of the Agency over the last three and a half years," said TRPA Executive Director Joanne Marchetta. Click here to read the obituary.
Band of strong thunderstorms headed toward Carson City range
Submitted by editor on Sun, 07/25/2010 - 5:40pmThe National Weather Service in Reno is tracking a band of strong thunderstorms heading toward Carson City and the Carson Range from the south this evening.
The west side of the Carson range can expect lightning, moderate rainfall amounts of around a half inch per hour, reducing visibility to less than three miles and strong gusty winds of around 40 to 50 mph, according to the weather service.
Areas mostly likely to be affected include Genoa, Spooner Summit, Lakeview and the Washoe Lake areas, as well as Glenbrook, Incline Village and the Mount Rose summit.

Carson City men face battery charges after fight at Tahoe beach
Submitted by editor on Thu, 06/24/2010 - 5:01pmTwo Carson City men face charges after a fight was reported in the Tahoe/Incline Village area, in which the victim was allegedly hit in the head with a rock.
Dennis James Harrison, 21, faces a felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon. He is being held on $30,000 bond. Joseph Gonzales, 19, faces a misdemeanor battery charge. His bail was set at $1,132.
According to the arrest report, Carson City deputies responded to the Chimney Beach area along with Washoe County officers on Wednesday afternoon in reference to a fight involving three men.
